Item Quality Ranks

1.1.

Profession Consumable Ranks

As part of Dragonflight's overhaul of Professions, many crafted items and consumables may have multiple ranks of quality that impact their effects. For consumables, there are potentially three ranks of an item that may be used, with Rank 3 items (shown as item level 415 in-game and with three gold stars) providing the most powerful bonuses. However, higher quality consumables will generally be more expensive and not always necessary depending on the content you are doing. You should be willing to use whatever rank of an item is most within your budget, and save higher-quality consumables for content where you will really need the extra boost!

If you would like to learn more about quality ranks on profession items, or the overhaul to professions as a whole, please see our overview below.

You should always take the highest rank available to you.

Best Gems for Frost Mage

You should use Culminating Blasphemite Icon Culminating Blasphemite in one socket. Then, you should ensure you have one gem of each type in other sockets to max out the Crit effect, ideally Quick Ruby Icon Quick Ruby/Quick Onyx Icon Quick Onyx/Quick Sapphire Icon Quick Sapphire/ Masterful Emerald Icon Masterful Emerald/Quick Amber Icon Quick Amber. Fill in remaining sockets with Masterful Emerald Icon Masterful Emerald.

Best Enchants for Frost Mage

Keep in mind that you should sim your character to find out which secondary stat is best for your gear. It may change from the suggestions below depending on various factors. More information on how stats work and interact with Frost Mage can be found here:

Slot Enchantment
Rings Enchant Ring - Radiant Haste Icon Enchant Ring - Radiant Haste or whatever your sim tells you to run. The practical difference is tiny, and Haste is a good default. Generally do not bother with the Cursed variants, Frost likes all stats too much. Magnificent Jeweler's Setting Icon Magnificent Jeweler's Setting (adds up to 2 sockets to a Ring or Neck)
Necklace Magnificent Jeweler's Setting Icon Magnificent Jeweler's Setting (adds up to 2 sockets to a Ring or Neck)
Weapon Enchant Weapon - Authority of the Depths Icon Enchant Weapon - Authority of the Depths, or Enchant Weapon - Authority of Radiant Power Icon Enchant Weapon - Authority of Radiant Power early on before Depths is available.
Chest Enchant Chest - Crystalline Radiance Icon Enchant Chest - Crystalline Radiance
Bracers Enchant Bracer - Chant of Armored Avoidance Icon Enchant Bracer - Chant of Armored Avoidance as a default, and Enchant Bracer - Chant of Armored Speed Icon Enchant Bracer - Chant of Armored Speed if you are not trying to do extremely high-end content, or the alt is simply an alt.
Cloak Enchant Cloak - Chant of Winged Grace Icon Enchant Cloak - Chant of Winged Grace as a default, and Enchant Cloak - Chant of Burrowing Rapidity Icon Enchant Cloak - Chant of Burrowing Rapidity if you are not trying to do extremely high-end content, or the alt is simply an alt.
Boots Enchant Boots - Defender's March Icon Enchant Boots - Defender's March as a default, and Enchant Boots - Scout's March Icon Enchant Boots - Scout's March if you are not trying to do extremely high-end content or the alt is simply an alt.
Legs Sunset Spellthread Icon Sunset Spellthread, or Weavercloth Spellthread Icon Weavercloth Spellthread (cheaper)

The deciding factor between Avoidance/Stamina and Speed is simply if you feel like taking a minor amount less damage compared to moving nearly 9% faster at all times. You can make the argument for each in every scenario, even in extremely high-end content. Avoidance lets you survive larger hits; Speed gives you more leeway to run out of an AoE effect. The argument is as old as the game is; pick which you prefer.

For comparisons, full Avoidance enchants is 3.01%, full Leech is 3.0%, and full Speed is 8.82% at the cost of 18k health.

Consumables for Frost Mage

4.1.

Best Flasks and Potions for Frost

Tempered Potion Icon Tempered Potion is the best potion to use.

You should be drinking the Flask of Tempered Swiftness Icon Flask of Tempered Swiftness at all times, although Flask of Tempered Versatility Icon Flask of Tempered Versatility can be argued for high Mythic+.

Make sure to apply Algari Mana Oil Icon Algari Mana Oil to your weapon as well.

You should keep a stock of Algari Healing Potion Icon Algari Healing Potions to use when at low health, and if you have a Warlock in the group, grab their Healthstone Icon Healthstones and use them as well. Do not macro these together, they are best used separately! You can also obtain Fleeting Algari Healing Potion Icon Fleeting Algari Healing Potion from Cauldrons that can be spawned by Alchemists.

5.

Best Food for Frost Mage in The War Within

You should be eating from a primary stat Feast at all times, either Feast of the Divine Day Icon Feast of the Divine Day, Feast of the Midnight Masquerade Icon Feast of the Midnight Masquerade, or Hearty Feast of the Midnight Masquerade Icon Hearty Feast of the Midnight Masquerade.

If Feasts are not available, eat Outsider's Provisions Icon Outsider's Provisions, Beledar's Bounty Icon Beledar's Bounty, Jester's Board Icon Jester's Board, or Empress' Farewell Icon Empress' Farewell instead.

5.1.

Augment Runes for Frost

In addition, if you can afford it, you should use Crystallized Augment Rune Icon Crystallized Augment Runes to increase your primary stat. Augment Runes are expensive, and disappear on death, so use them wisely!
