Best in Slot Gear for Frost Mage

Overall BiS List for Pre-Season
2.1.

Pre-Season BiS List for Frost Mage

This list contains the Best in Slot Gear for Frost Mage in Midnight Pre-Season from Pre-Season sources, which functionally boils down to just dungeons. It should be noted that other drop sources could appear, and as long as they have Mastery on them, or are a Crit+Haste item, they are likely worth taking if their item level exceeds what you have on currently.

Note that there is no such thing as a singular, all-encompassing "BiS". The best items vary per character and situation, and there are many items that are essentially equivalent in terms of DPS, namely when we are just shuffling secondary stats around. I will list one "BiS" item per slot, but ultimately, BiS lists are not very practically useful, and you should be simming your character to find out what gear to equip next. Nonetheless, there is a huge demand for this list, and thus, despite my not thinking you should really care much about it, it is here for your perusal.

"Simming" Yourself as a Frost Mage

Throughout this page, we regularly refer to the importance of simming yourself on Raidbots, as it is an indispensable aspect of optimizing your character.

While we do offer generic sim charts for Trinkets, this should not be a replacement for simming yourself, at least not if you want to minmax sub-1%!

If you are new to simming and Raidbots, check out our detailed guide below.

4.

Best Crafted Items for Frost Mage

Pre-Season you should generally aim to craft any slots that you are having issues filling otherwise. However, given materials will be expensive, it would likely be better to not craft until Season 1 begins.

Please check out our page on the profession system for more information:

Embellishments and Crafting Order

Sims do not currently support Embellishments at time of writing, making this particularly difficult. This, combined with the relative uselessness of crafting in Pre-Season, and the renown/profession knowledge locks on some of the more promising Embellishments leads me to believe that we should not actually suggest any until Season 1 begins.

For almost all use cases, the 10 item level drop from pre-spark crafts compared against normal dungeon gear is not going to be worth doing on Frost Mage unless you are exceptionally unlucky.

If possible and you insist on crafting early, one of the more promising Embellishments is Devouring Banding Icon Devouring Banding, which can be applied to all armour and weapon slots.

5.

Best Gear Crest Upgrades for Frost Mage

You will be able to upgrade your items via Crests such as Myth Dawncrest Icon Myth Dawncrest. Once you have upgraded a slot to a certain item level, upgrading other items of that slot to that item level costs no crests.

When you upgrade with Crests, you should think of it as upgrading slots and not items.

Additionally, since Crests are a limited resource, you will want to obtain the highest item-level possible before upgrading a given slot, as this means you will spend fewer Crests on that slot in total. If you are at all capable of doing a +10 Dungeon (3/6 Hero), for example, it would be a VERY bad idea to upgrade an item from a +9 Dungeon (2/6 Hero), because you just wasted 20 Crests that could have been saved by just farming the slot on a +10.

Crests in Midnight are track-specific, so there is no real penalty in upgrading Hero track pieces fully, and in fact can be beneficial as it will skip 20 Myth crests on the Myth 2 upgrade. This amounts to a full extra piece of gear, or a Myth crafted item, every month. For the average player who can only obtain Myth track from their weekly vault, this is a fairly important bonus.

We see a ton of players, even at a high level, mess up their upgrade priorities, and upgrading prematurely. Getting this right will put you far ahead of most players.

Below is the slot priority you should upgrade your items in. If you ever want to deviate from this, you should have a very good reason.

  1. Weapons
  2. Trinkets
  3. Helm/Chest/Legs
  4. Shoulders/Gloves/Belt/Boots
  5. Cloaks and Bracers
  6. Rings and Necks

Please check out our page on the upgrade system for more information.
