Mistweaver Monk PvP Rotation and Playstyle (Dragonflight 10.2.5)
PvP requires you to perform various actions in the course of a duel, match, or battleground: interrupting/silencing enemies, healing your teammates and yourself, defending yourself, keeping yourself alive, etc. It is a game mode that fully utilises your kit, especially spells that are rarely used in PvE. On this page, we go through all the spells you need to use in PvP as a Mistweaver Monk, how you should use them, and we explain what your playstyle should be.
This page is part of our Mistweaver Monk PvP Guide.
Playstyle for Mistweaver Monks
The main role for a Mistweaver Monk, besides keeping your team alive, is to always keep your team offensive and take advantage of your mobility.
To keep your team offensive, you will push in with your team to try to get Leg Sweep stuns the entire enemy team. Use Paralysis on healers and Leg Sweep them once it is over. Be careful not to use all of your mobility to reach the enemy healer. This will make it easy for teams to make swaps to you.
Taking advantage of your mobility is crucial. Mistweavers are one of the squishiest healers. Use abilities like Chi Torpedo and Transcendence: Transfer to push in with your team and push out if they swap to you. Transcendence: Transfer does have a relatively long cooldown, so make sure it is available when you overextend with abilities like Leg Sweep.
Before Gates Open
Before the gates open, you should make sure to have multiple stacks of water in your bags. This is important because you can run out of Mana quickly, and having the option to drink is crucial. Sometimes you can bait the team in overextending by starting to drink (making them think you will be out of action for a while). This can open up the potential for a kill.
Make sure your team has a strategy for crowd control, and remember that your Paralysis/ Song of Chi-Ji will break from any damage.
The Opener
Healers do not really have an "opener" as such. As a Mistweaver, you want to do two things when the gate opens.
- Put down your Summon Jade Serpent Statue if you are talented into it.
- Place your Transcendence portal in a safe place (such as behind a pillar).
After this, start putting Renewing Mist on your teammates so they have some healing on them. This should be easy because you have two charges of Renewing Mist. If you think the enemy team will focus you at the start, put a charge on yourself.
The other team is going to try to force your trinket in the opener so they have an advantage later in the game. Use Transcendence: Transfer to avoid incoming crowd control on you, and hold on to your trinket for as long as you can.
Healing Techniques
Burst Healing
Use this if the enemy team uses their cooldowns to try to kill a teammate.
- Cast Life Cocoon.
- Use Renewing Mist.
- Use Soothing Mist.
- Use Vivify.
- Use Expel Harm.
If you do not have Life Cocoon, do the following.
- Use Zen Spheres on you or your teammate.
- Use Renewing Mist.
- Channel Soothing Mist on your teammate taking damage.
- Use Thunder Focus Tea.
- Use Vivify.
- Use Enveloping Mist.
- Use Vivify
- Use Expel Harm.
- Use Revival/ Restoral if your team is taking heavy spread damage.
- Invoke Yu'lon, the Jade Serpent is an extremely powerful cooldown that gives you powerful single-target healing. Follow this up with an Enveloping Mist to do a large amount of healing.
- Channel Mana Tea when the enemy team is running away or not using burst cooldowns.
Sustained Damage Healing
Use this to heal sustained damage throughout the fight (damage done when the other team does not have burst cooldowns available).
- Use Zen Spheres on you or your teammate.
- Use Renewing Mist every time it comes off cooldown.
- Cast Enveloping Mist on party members that are being targeted by the enemy team.
- Use Vivify for both single-target and spread healing.
- Use Thunder Focus Tea. After using Thunder Focus Tea:
- If your teammate is extremely low, use Enveloping Mist. If they are not, use Vivify.
- Use Vivify.
- Use Expel Harm to heal both you and your teammate, as well as generate Healing Spheres.
Spread Damage Healing
When there is spread damage (a single teammate is not being focused), do the following.
- Use Zen Spheres on you or your teammate.
- Keep Renewing Mist on all teammates.
- Use Healing Sphere where your teammates are standing, if you are using this PvP talent.
- Use Enveloping Mist on teammates that are low on health (prioritize the lowest health target).
- Use Revival/ Restoral if needed.
- Use Expel Harm to heal both you and your teammate
- Channel Mana Tea when the enemy team is running away or not using burst cooldowns.
Defensives
- Leg Sweep should be used for crowd control on the enemy healer most of the time. If you are being focused and cannot get away or receive help from your teammates, use Leg Sweep to stun enemies near you.
- Transcendence can be used to teleport behind pillars. Use this when you push in for a Leg Sweep and Transcendence: Transfer back before you get swapped to. If an enemy is casting crowd control on you, you can teleport before their cast finishes to avoid being crowd controlled.
- Fortifying Brew is a damage reduction spell that also increases your health. This works well with Healing Elixir and, if you play with a Warlock, Healthstones. Use this when Transcendence is on cooldown and you cannot get away from the enemy team.
- Paralysis can be used when you have been interrupted. If the enemy team is trying to kill one of your teammates and you get interrupted, use Paralysis on one of the enemy DPS to prevent their damage. You can also use Paralysis to interrupt casts, including to avoid incoming crowd control.
- Provoke can be used to taunt enemy pets. Using this on a pet 1-2 seconds before being in crowd control can cause the pet to attack you and break the crowd control. For example, taunting a Mage's Water Elemental right before a Polymorph cast will cause the elemental to release you.
Macros
It is advised to use Macros to use abilities on enemies or allies without having to target them. For this reason, we have a page dedicated to them.
