Best Enchants, Gems, and Consumables for Unholy Death Knight in Midnight
This section covers the optimal gems, enchants, food, and flasks for your character. To get a more detailed rundown of the different stats for Unholy Death Knight, please visit our dedicated Stats page.
Recommended Gems
If you do not want to bother with simulations, simply go for
Indecipherable Eversong Diamond as
your epic gem and then
Flawless Deadly Amethyst or
Flawless Masterful Garnet as your non-epic gems.
This is also the most likely to be your best setup anyway.
Midnight has two effects that synergise equipping multiple different gem colours:
Powerful Eversong Diamond (Epic Gem) as well as
Signet of Azerothian Blessings and
Loa Worshiper's Band (Jewelcrafting). Whether or not it is worth to maximise
the gem colours depend on your exact gear and stats. The number of available sockets and
the number of rings that benefit from the effect can flip the decision.
Furthermore, with the Loa ring, you control the effect it provides with the gem colours
you have equipped, and therefore might to stack a specific colour to only get a specific summon.
It is a simulation question at the end of the day but will generally not have a huge impact on your DPS. If you do
go for max mixed-colour value, pick the following gems:
Flawless Masterful Garnet
Flawless Masterful Peridot
Flawless Deadly Amethyst
Flawless Masterful Lapis

Midnight has five different ring enchants that you can choose from. In general,
we pick
Enchant Ring - Zul'jin's Mastery due to the high Mastery value. Both
Enchant Ring - Eyes of the Eagle and
Enchant Ring - Nature's Fury are options
however and you should simulate yourself to be sure.
Consumable Recommendations for Unholy Death Knight
You can consume a number of different temporary items to increase your power in Dungeons and Raids. Below is a comprehensive overview of everything you want to use!
Flasks
You generally want to use either
Flask of the Shattered Sun or
Flask of the Magisters in all content. The choice depends on your current stats
and is unfortunately not an obvious one. If you have
lots of Mastery and not much Crit, Shattered Sun is likely best. If you have lots of Crit
and not much Mastery, Magisters is better. You need to simulate yourself to get the most
accurate result that fits your character, but the above guidelines will serve you well in 99%
of cases.
Potions
There are three options for potion that we can use. We recommend
Light's Potential
as your go-to potion.
Draught of Rampant Abandon can sometimes sim highest but
has a negative drawback where it drops a void zone under your feet and silences you.
Potion of Recklessness can sometimes sim a bit higher as well, but this depends on a variety
of different factors. The biggest of them being that you want the Recklessness potion to
proc Mastery, unless you are using
Algeth'ar Puzzle Box, where you'd want the potion
to grant Crit instead. There are a few other considerations as well, i.e. whether you
already have a lot of Mastery by default, at which point the potion buff would be heavily
affected by stat diminishing returns. In essence, run
Light's Potential, but if you
want to minmax, simulate your character to see if Recklessness is ever-so-slightly better.
You should also make sure to keep up a stock of
Silvermoon Health Potion! These healing
potions are great for when you need to quickly heal yourself, helping your healers and
ensuring that you stay alive.
Food
You can either pick up main stat food or secondary stat food in Midnight. For Unholy Death Knights,
main stat is the best option. This means that you either want to eat a feast such as
Harandar Celebration
or
Silvermoon Parade. If your party or raid team does not supply a feast, you can eat
Impossibly Royal Roast or
Royal Roast as an alternative.
Unholy Death Knight Runeforge Enchants Explained
Rune of the Fallen Crusader: Nice strength and heal
that falls a couple % short of
Rune of the Apocalypse.
Rune of Razorice: This Runeforge has more of a place with Frost
Death Knights since Unholy does no frost damage.
Rune of Sanguination: Provides a
small execute effect for
Death Strike and a small cheat death mechanic.
This Runeforge has more of a place in PvP as opposed to PvE content.
Rune of Spellwarding: Provides
small defense towards casters, making it more geared towards PvP
situations.
Rune of the Apocalypse: Strong synergy with all
Lesser Ghouls that
you summon and best Runeforge in all content.
Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle: This Runeforge is primarily a defensive option
that does not see play for Unholy.
Rune of Unending Thirst: Sometimes used for leveling since it provides
movement speed, Haste, and heals when you kill an enemy.
