Grong the Revenant / King Grong Strategy Guide in Battle of Dazar'alor Raid
Welcome to our encounter guide for Grong the Revenant (Alliance) or King Grong (Horde) in the Battle of Dazar'alor raid. Here, you will first find a quick breakdown by role following by a detailed strategy to defeat the encounter.
All the information found on this page is subject to change due to the raid still being in the PTR-testing phase. We will provide a full guide for each fight when the raid release date is set and more information is available.
2. Fight Overview
Grong is a fairly straightforward encounter that has no phase changes. The boss will spawn adds and go through his combo attack, which deals a large amount of damage to the tanks. This is likely to be a numbers-focused fight, rather than a hugely strategy-dependent fight.
3. Grong Encounter Abilities
These abilities are used by both versions of the boss, with no difference depending on the encounter.
3.1. Bestial/Necrotic Combo
The combo consists of 2 abilities, Bestial Smash and Rending Bite. Bestial Smash deals a large amount of Physical damage and applies a debuff that increases the damage taken from subsequent casts of it, while Rending Bite applies a Physical DoT that deals damage every second for 12 seconds.
3.2. Ferocious Roar
Ferocious Roar deals Physical damage to all enemies within an 80-yard radius and fears any targets that are not standing near an ally for 5 seconds.
4. King Grong Abilities
When Grong reaches 100 energy, he will pound the ground, causing Nature damage and applying a DoT to every player. The DoT deals additional damage every second for up to 4 seconds.
The Dungeon Journal currently lists a debuff called Shaken, which increases the damage taken from Tantrum by 30%, but there is no indicator of what causes this.
4.2. Reverberating Slam
When used, this ability causes Physical damage in a 10-yard radius, followed by an explosion in the same radius. This explosion will cause Nature damage and knock back any enemies that are hit.
4.3. Flying Ape Wranglers
These adds will launch Megatomic Seeker Missiles at players, dealing Fire damage in a 10-yard radius. Once they explode, they will leave behind a zone that deals damage to anyone that stands in it.
4.4. Apetagonizer 3000
These adds will periodically shock Grong, causing his Energy bar to increase by 10 each time. When they die, they will cause an explosion that deals damage to enemies in a 15-yard radius and knocks back anyone hit by it. If Grong is standing in the explosion, he will gain 50 Energy.
5. Grong the Revenant Abilities
5.1. Death Knell
This ability functions the same as Tantrum, but it deals Shadow damage, rather than Nature damage.
5.2. Deadly Slam
This ability is the same as Reverberating Slam, but it deals Shadow damage instead of Physical.
5.3. Death Specter
These adds perform the same function in the fight as the two adds on the King Grong version, but rolled into a single add. The only difference is that the boss deals Shadow damage, rather than Fire or Physical damage.
This section will be updated closer to the release of the raid.
