The Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop grants you access to cool but short-lived inventions (they all expire after 1 day) and eventually allows you to build a siege vehicle that you can use in PvP.

Unlocking the Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop, Level 1
The Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop, Level 1 is available as soon as you build you build your Town Hall, Level 2.
Unlocking the Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop, Level 2
Garrison Blueprint: Gnomish Gearworks, Level 2 / Garrison Blueprint: Goblin Workshop, Level 2 is sold by the blueprint vendor at your Garrison once you reach level 100 or once you complete your Nagrand Outpost. You can buy it with 1,500 . You can also buy it from the blueprint vendor in Ashran without restrictions with a Comprehensive Outpost Construction Guide, which can only be obtained twice, once when questing in Talador and once when questing in Nagrand. so the purpose of this Below, you will find the Alliance and Horde vendors.
Unlocking the Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop, Level 3
Garrison Blueprint: Gnomish Gearworks, Level 3 / Garrison Blueprint: Goblin Workshop, Level 3 is a reward from completing the Terrific Technology achievement, which requires you to use the inventions available at the workshop a number of times. This achievement is account-wide.
Once you complete the achievement, the blueprint is not directly handed over to you. You still need to buy it from Sparz Boltwist (Alliance) or Rezlak (Horde) for 1,000 .
Devices
When you first visit your Gnomish Gearworks / Goblin Workshop, you will be given Unconventional Inventions (Alliance) or Unconventional Inventions (Horde) from one of the engineers in the building. Completing this quest requires you to loot a device from the workbench, which is how you will be able to get a new random device every few hours. Devices seem to spawn on the workbench in an erratic way, so it is very hard to say how often you get to loot a new device, but it is at least once a day.
Below, you will find a list of the devices. They all have a 24-hour duration, after which time they disappear from your inventory.
- "Skyterror" Personal Delivery System is awesome for flying around Draenor and reaching otherwise inaccessible places. It works exactly like Aviana's Feather, which you can get from the Inn / Tavern in your Garrison. It sends you flying very high up in the air and then you slowly glide your way down. The item has 2 charges and you need to use it 10 times to complete Terrific Technology. It is available at Level 1.
- Sticky Grenade Launcher does 40k AoE damage and can be very useful while questing (but does not work in dungeons or raids). The item has 25 charges and you need to use it 50 times to complete Terrific Technology. It is available at Level 1.
- Robo-Rooster summons a mechanical unit that fights for you for 10 minutes, on a 10-minute cooldown. The item has 5 charges and you need to use it 20 times to complete Terrific Technology. It is available at Level 1
- Pneumatic Power Gauntlet does 10k AoE damage in melee range on a 2-minute cooldown. The item has 10 charges and you need to use it 50 times to complete Terrific Technology. It is available at Level 1.
- Prototype Mekgineer's Chopper (Alliance) and Prototype Mechano-Hog (Horde) summon a prototype motorcycle. These items have 10 charges and you need to use them 50 times to complete Terrific Technology. It becomes available at Level 2.
- XD-57 "Bullseye" Guided Rocket Kit creates a rocket that you can mount for a minute, during which time you can fly (at a relatively slow speed) in Draenor. The item has 2 charges and you need to use it 5 times to complete Terrific Technology. It becomes available at Level 2.
- Sentry Turret Dispensor summons 3 turrets that deal 10k damage every 3 seconds to enemies for 30 seconds. The item has 5 charges and you need to use it 10 times to complete Terrific Technology. It becomes available at Level 2.
- GG-117 Micro-Jetpack changes your jump into a fiery leap that does damage to enemies on impact. The item has 2 charges and you need to use it 10 times to complete Terrific Technology. It becomes available at Level 2.
- N.U.K.U.L.A.R. Target Painter deals 500k AoE damage in a wide radius, on a 1-hour cooldown, and is very useful while questing (but does not work in raids and dungeons). The item has only one charge and you need to use it 5 times to complete Terrific Technology. It becomes available at Level 2.
