Player Housing: Interior Customization Guide
Player housing has arrived in Azeorth! Here is a short guide to get you going on what to do when it comes to the interior of your brand new home.
Player Housing Interior Introduction
The Midnight expansion brings one of the most anticipated features EVER to World of Warcraft: player housing. This new addition will allow players to create and customize their own living spaces within the game, adding a new layer of immersion and personalization.
In this guide, we will show you what tools you will have to play with to make sure you can make a place to call home. If you are looking to get started with Player Housing check out our guide here!
The Different Modes
To get started you will want to enter the "Edit House" mode located at the top of your screen which looks like the image below. You must be in the edit mode to make any changes to your house and the decor within. Once in edit mode, there are several design modes to help you edit your home. Each work with eachother to make the home of your dreams come to life. Decorate, Advanced, Customize, and Clean-up. Below we will go over each of the modes and what they can do.
Decorate Mode
Decorate mode is what you will start with for placing the many decor items you have collected. Once in this mode a new decor storage window will pop up with all decor items you currently own, complete with a filter function and a search bar to help find what you are looking for. Simply click on the item you wish to place, then place it wherever your heart desires. The defeault mode will be "Snap to Grid" for ease of convenience, but you can toggle to "Enable Clipping" to clip through other decor or even the floors and walls! Once your decor is place you are free to move it around anytime.
Below we have an image of the Decorate mode selected, the two boxes above the mode are the "Snap to Grid" and "Enable Clipping" toggles. As well as a video to show off what it looks like placing decor in Decorate mode.
Advanced Mode
Advanced mode is for those of you who may want to break the rules a bit when it comes to creating something. In this mode you can move a decor item on any axis, rotate it so it faces exactly the angle you are looking for, and increase or decrease it's scale to your hearts content. A helpful note is that clipping is automatically enabled while in Advanced mode, the snap to grid is only a function of Decorate mode.
Below we have an image of the Advanced mode selected, the three boxes above the mode are "Move", "Rotate" and "Scale" toggles. As well as a video to show off what it looks like adjusting decor in Advanced mode.
Customize Mode
Customize mode is a mode that does different things depending on the object you interact with. For certain decor items you can actually dye the object, with a new dye system, to mix and match colors creating the perfect color scheme for your home. For things such as doors, walls, and floors you can actually interact with them to change the theme of that section of your home. Not all objects in your home have customization options. If your painter's palette mouse icon appears grey, than that object has no customization option currently.
Below we have a couple of videos showing off what the Customization mode UI looks like on a decor item, and on the structure of you home.
Cleanup Mode
Clean up mode is the quickest way to remove items from your home back to your decor storage. Simply be in this mode, click any decor item, and *poof* it is gone and back in your decor storage. This mode is ideal for cleaning up an area to start over, who doesn't love some spring cleaning?
Below we have a video showing off what the Cleanup mode looks like in action.
Edit Floorplan
Once you have the basics down why not expand a bit? You can edit the floorplan of your home to add additional rooms turning you small home into a tall tower or an extra long mansion! To start you will need to click on the Edit Floorplan button located at the bottom of your screen next to the different editing modes. This will give you an aerial view of you current floorplan and show you where you can make additions. Click on the room you want to add, then where you would like to add it. You have now expanded your home!
Each room has a room budget associated with it, at first this will be fairly small only allowing the addition of a few rooms. But quickly as you increase your House Level you will be able to add dozens of rooms. Mix and match rooms to create the perfect floorplan for your home!
Below we have a video showing how to add a new room to an already existing room.
Dye System
With player housing Blizzard introduces a dye system to help players make many decor items even more their own. Dyes can be made by those who have learned the Alchemy or Insciption profession. If you do not have either of those professions fear not, as all dyes can be bought and sold on the auction house as well.
How to make dyes
- Learn Alchemy or Insciption: You can pick up either of these professions at any main capital, or at the town center of the neighborhood next to the Dye Station.
- Make a Pigment: To create a pigment, open Alchemy or Inscription. Navigate to the classic section of your profession. Click on the pigment you desire to see what herbs you can salvage to create that pigment.
- Make a Dye: Once you have a pigment in hand, go to the Dye Station located at the town center of each neighborhood. Once there select a dye, then create your dye at a ratio of 1 pigment per 1 dye.
That is all that is required to make dyes. Once you have some dyes you can sell them on the auction house or dye decor items to find that perfect color scheme.
