On this page, we list the best gems, enchants, flasks, potions, and food you can get for your Arcane Mage, based on your stat priority. We also give budget alternatives. This page is updated for World of Warcraft Patch 12.1.
Recommended Gems
There are both Epic and Rare gems, with Epic gems being significantly more powerful. However, you can only equip a single epic gem, so you will have to fill out the rest of your slots with rare gems.
There are two epic gems, either of which can be best depending on
the situation. If you have 5 gem slots or more,
Powerful Eversong Diamond is the best epic gem. However, if you have
fewer than 5, use
Indecipherable Eversong Diamond.
Rare gems are all very close in power, and the best one will
fluctuate depending on your exact stat distribution.
If you have 5 gem slots or more
and thus using
Powerful Eversong Diamond, you should use one of
each color. Otherwise, you can just use any gem that sims best, or go
Flawless Quick Amethyst as a safe default. See the list below
for full details.
- Epic:
- With 5 sockets or more:
Powerful Eversong Diamond - With fewer than 5 sockets:
Indecipherable Eversong Diamond
- With 5 sockets or more:
- Rare with 5 sockets or more:
- 1x
Flawless Masterful Peridot - 1x
Flawless Quick Garnet - 1x
Flawless Quick Amethyst - 1x
Flawless Quick Lapis - Rest of slots
Flawless Quick Amethyst
- 1x
- Rare with fewer than 5 sockets:
Flawless Quick Amethyst in all
slots
We highly recommend using Raidbots to sim your character's ideal gems and enchants, as they might differ from our general recommendations.

Best Enchants and Weapon Augments
You should be using
Thalassian Phoenix Oil as your weapon augment in all content.
| Slot | Enchantment |
|---|---|
| Helm (non damage) | |
| Chest | |
| Shoulders (non damage) | |
| Legs | |
| Ring | |
| Feet (non damage) | |
| Weapon |
Not all enchants provide damage, like Helm, Shoulders and Feet, and instead you can
choose between Speed, Avoidance or Leech for these slots. Speed
is usually a solid choice, as you can move further during all of
the instant cast spells like
Arcane Barrage or
Arcane Orb,
and channeled spells like
Arcane Missiles. This allows you to save
your quick mobility spells like
Shimmer /
Blink
for when you need to move very suddenly due to a mechanic.
However, Avoidance enchants are also a great option for
these slots to simply reduce the damage you take from various enemy
abilities. I generally do not recommend the Leech enchants for group content,
but it can be quite nice for solo content.

Optimal Consumables
In addition to enchants and improvements to your gear, making sure you come prepared with the right consumables to endgame content has a big impact on your performance.
Flask
For Season 2, all secondary stat flasks are very close in DPS
and the exact best Flask will differ based on your gear.
Flask of the Blood Knights is usually a safe choice to be best or close
to best.
Potions
Light's Potential is the best DPS potion for all content, while
Concentrated Silvermoon Health Potion is our healing potion of choice.
Food Buff
Silvermoon Parade, or
Hearty Silvermoon Parade if you are doing
content with frequent dying, like progressing a raid boss.
Augment Rune
Augment Runes are often quite expensive, but do provide roughly a 1% DPS increase
when used so they can be quite important when doing the hardest content.
Void-Touched Augment Rune is the only available Augment Rune currently.
