Holy Priest Patch 9.1 Changes Analysis

This page will go over how the changes currently on the Patch 9.1 Public Test Realm (PTR) will affect Holy Priests, specifically how the changes impact the playstyle, best Legendaries, Covenants, etc. If you are simply interested in what the current changes are for Holy Priest on the 9.1 PTR, you can instead read our full list of changes to the entire Priest class on our dedicated page below. Because the changes discussed on this page are on the PTR, there is a high likelihood of things changing before Patch 9.1 goes live. Additionally, as there is still a lot of time left until 9.1 goes live, things that might currently appear best might not end up being best due to continued theorycrafting discovering better builds. Due to this, we strongly suggest that you check back when 9.1 is fully live for the latest state of Holy Priests.

The changes in 9.1 do not have any impact on talent balance.

The changes in 9.1 to Symbol of Hope grant it raid-wide cooldown reduction on the personal cooldown for each player. This means that for optimal usage you will want to try and use Symbol of Hope after the majority of players have used their personals to get the maximum value out of this effect. Symbol retains the Mana return component granting a percentage of missing Mana, so you will continue to cast this as late into the fight as practical if you want to optimise this part of the spell.

In an organised raid you will likely end up using it primarily for the cooldown reduction portion, typically after a period of raid-wide damage that most of the raid will be using their personal cooldowns to mitigate.

None of the newly-added Legendaries currently appear to be better than Flash Concentration or Harmonious Apparatus, and these two will most likely remain the best options in 9.1.

Since none of the new Legendaries appear better than our current best-in-slot, there is nothing leaning us towards a specific covenant in 9.1.
