Shadow Priest DPS Manaforge Omega Raid Guide — The War Within (11.2)
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Shadow Priest for each boss of the following raid: Manaforge Omega. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — The War Within (11.2).
Introduction
This page assumes that you already understand most of the mechanics of each encounter. These can be found on the full raid guide, so what is contained here are details specifically tailored toward Shadow Priest and how you can deal with each fight as best as possible.
All recommendations are progression-based tips and will not necessarily be the best for an overall DPS ranking.
To make importing talents easier, I have aggregated the builds into the list below into three main builds. Taking these as a baseline, you can handle all raid encounters in this tier.
Raid Talent Builds for Shadow Priest
Single Target Build for Shadow Priest
This build is aimed at maximizing pure single target damage. It can also still
handle adds since we always take Shadow Crash.
As a Shadow Priest you should feel free to play either Archon or
Voidweaver in raiding environments. Archon has a higher theoretical max
but it can be quite punishing to play and requires you to get several ~80-90s duration
Voidform durations during the encounter to be viable. Each encounter below gives a default
starting suggestion for Hero talent choice, start with this and try out the other
if it does not feel right to you.
If you are struggling with Voidform durations with the new tier set
check out this blog post.
Note that until you get the new Season 3 set bonuses you should prefer running
Archon in raiding content.
- Plexus Sentinel
- Loom’ithar
- Soulbinder Naazindhri
- Forgeweaver Araz
- Fractillus
- Nexus King Salhadaar
- Dimensius The All Devouring

Three Target Build for Shadow Priest
This build is crafted specifically for The Soul Hunters where you are
facing Three Targets for the majority of the encounter. Largely speaking this build
is very identical to the Single Target versions, we just drop Phantasmal Pathogen.
As a Shadow Priest you should feel free to play either Archon or
Voidweaver in raiding environments. Archon has a higher theoretical max
but it can be quite punishing to play and requires you to consistently get
~90s+ duration
Voidform buffs to be viable. Each encounter below gives a default
starting suggestion for Hero talent choice, start with this and try out the other
if it does not feel right to you.
Note that until you get the new Season 3 set bonuses you should prefer running
Archon in raiding content.

Tips for Plexus Sentinel for Shadow Priest
This is one of several bosses in the raid where you get to use your
Extra Action Button to active a Reshii Wraps mechanic. Use this
macro to bind that ability.

Video
The following is Mythic footage from Live servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties.
Defensive Tips
- Watch for the countdown of
Obliteration Arcanocannon going off on the tank. You want to use
Fade for each of these.
- In case of emergencies you can use
Dispersion to bypass the wall without dying if you cloak ability is still on cooldown.
Cooldown Usage
- After each intermission the boss has a shield active that needs to be
broken. This is where
Shadow Word: Death with
Devour Matter comes in handy, be sure to prioritize this ability.
Mechanical Tips
- Be sure to pre-position yourself so that if you get
Manifest Matrices you do not have to move far.
- When using your
Reshii Wraps to phase through the wall be sure to have your character facing the direction you want to go, not your camera.
Mythic Difficulty
- When fighting the adds in the intermission try and position yourself so you can hit a set of adds and the boss at the same time. This way you can cleave off the boss.
Best Talents
Suggested Hero Talent Spec: Voidweaver
Note that if you do not yet have the new Season 3 tier set bonus
I strongly suggest you play Archon.

Tips for Loom'ithar for Shadow Priest
Video
The following is Mythic footage from Live servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties.
Defensive Tips
- If you are ever targeted with
Infusion Tether you should immediately pop
Fade and focus the adds down if they are alive. As soon as you can get through run to the edge of the room to break the tether, I found
Dispersion to be helpful for this. You can also use
Spatial Rift to easily break out as a Void Elf.
- If you are assigned to soak an Infusion Pylon you might consider using a
Flash Heal or
Fade to mitigate incoming damage. Use
Desperate Prayer as your stacks get high. Ideally once you hit 8-10 stacks you should let your other raid member take over soaking.
Cooldown Usage
- Your priority during this encounter should be to kill adds as soon as possible.
Be sure to keep
Vampiric Touch active on all adds and the boss. You can pre-cast
Shadow Crash on the add that will spawn, it will be where the tank beam overlaps the closest add. I found that using 1 charge of Shadow Crash per add spawn is the easiest on Mythic difficulty.
- Once the boss hits 50% health they will take 25% increased damage. Ideally this
is when most groups will use
Bloodlust so be sure to save your cooldowns for this.
Mechanical Tips
- There are no mechanical tips for this boss.
Mythic Difficulty
- On mythic two adds will spawn instead of one. I opted to focus the outside add first
while still keeping
Vampiric Touch active on the inner add and the boss for optimal cleave. You should have 2 charges of
Shadow Crash for each set.
Best Talents
Suggested Hero Talent Spec: Archon
When you are progressing this boss you will likely need to hard swap to the adds to
help get them down quickly. Archon can do this much more easily than
Voidweaver and that is why I suggest playing Archon for this boss.
If the adds are dying quickly you can consider playing Voidweaver instead.

Tips for Soulbinder Naazindhri for Shadow Priest
Video
The following is Mythic footage from Live servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties.
Defensive Tips
- There are no defensive tips for this boss.
Cooldown Usage
- Whenever adds are broken out with
Soulfray Annihilation they will take 200% increased damage. You should always target these adds directly to cleave onto other adds or the boss to maximize
Psychic Link damage.
- Pay attention to the add spawn timers so that
Shadow Crash lands as soon as they spawn.
Mechanical Tips
- There are no mechanical tips for this boss.
Mythic Difficulty
- There are no specific tips for this boss on Mythic difficulty.
Best Talents
Suggested Hero Talent Spec: Archon
When you are progressing this boss you can get a lot of damage by instantly swapping
to target the adds when they spawn for the damage taken increase. Archon can
generally do this more easily than
Voidweaver which is why I would start with
Archon. If the adds are dying quickly you can also consider playing
Voidweaver
instead.

Tips for Forgeweaver Araz for Shadow Priest
Video
The following is Mythic footage from Live servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties.
Defensive Tips
- Be sure to use at least
Fade for each cast of
Arcane Expulsion before the intermission phases.
Cooldown Usage
- Watch your timers to know when the adds will spawn.
If timed correctly you can get a
Shadow Crash to land every time the adds spawn. Avoid using Shadow Crash for re-dotting just a single target if possible.
- Be sure to cast
Vampiric Touch on the Shielded Attendants that spawn during the intermission and maintain this until they die. While their shield is active you should cast
Shadow Word: Death when talented into
Devour Matter as a
Voidweaver.
- After the intermission ends the boss will go into
Mana Splinter phase where he takes double damage. This only lasts for 12 seconds so be sure to have your damage ready in time to make the most of this window. Usually we need to use our abilities on cooldown so you might not have much for this phase, but can at least bank up
Surge of Insanity procs a bit.
Mechanical Tips
- Note that while the Collectors are active in phase 1 they take 99% reduced damage and therefore there is no reason to keep DoTs active until you phase into the intermission.
- Depending on the strategy your group is using you
might need to main target the Arcane Echo when it is
active. On certain strategies you leave this add up and
just cleave it down with
Psychic Link so be sure to coordinate with your raid which you should focus. Either way make sure
Vampiric Touch is always active on the add and the boss.
- During the intermission you can position yourself
towards the back-middle of the room to DPS all Arcane
Collectors at once with
Psychic Link. The ideal position is on the console side of the middle pillar to be in range of everything. The goal is to kill these all within the same time so target swap to the one that has the highest health. Use
Shadow Crash to refresh or apply DoTs to the collector that has the adds near it to save GCDs manualy DoTing.
Mythic Difficulty
- Be sure to use all main cooldowns on cooldown ASAP. The timings on this encounter are very tight but if you use everything right away you should get good line ups.

Tips for The Soul Hunters for Shadow Priest
Video
The following is Heroic footage from PTR servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties or might have changed from when we did PTR testing. Look for updated footage after launch.
Defensive Tips
- There are no defensive tips for this boss.
Cooldown Usage
- There are no specific cooldown tips.
Mechanical Tips
- Be sure to roughly keep their health even, you want them to die close to each other.
Mythic Difficulty
- On Mythic, Ilyssa will cast
Sigil of Chains that will apply a slow effect to you for 6 seconds. This is a great time to make sure you have
Fade available so that we can purge it with the
Phantasm talent.
Best Talents
Suggested Hero Talent Spec: Archon
If you are struggling to consistently get ~80-90s duration Voidform
buffs at least every other cast you should swap to
Voidweaver instead.

Tips for Fractillus for Shadow Priest
Video
The following is Mythic footage from PTR servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties or might have changed from when we did PTR testing. Look for updated footage after launch.
Defensive Tips
- If you ever get 2 or more stacks of
Crystalline Shockwave you will likely need a major defensive like
Dispersion to live through it.
Cooldown Usage
- There is no specific cooldown usage for this boss.
Mechanical Tips
- There are no mechanical tips for this boss.
Mythic Difficulty

Best Talents
Suggested Hero Talent Spec: Voidweaver
Since this boss has no adds and is pure single target, you can use the Voidweaver
build variant that uses
Voidwraith and
Mindbender This generally gives
you more overall damage. You can also still play the default build if you want more execute damage specifically.
Note that if you do not yet have the new Season 3 tier set bonus
I strongly suggest you play Archon.

Tips for Nexus-King Salhadaar for Shadow Priest

The following is Normal footage from PTR servers. Certain mechanics might not exist on other difficulties or might have changed from when we did PTR testing. Look for updated footage after launch.
Defensive Tips
- There are no defensive tips for this boss.
Cooldown Usage
- While both bosses are active be sure to focus Voidwing and cleave onto the boss.
- Shortly after you finish the platforms you will jump into the second intermission where Voidwing will take double damage. Be sure to have full cooldowns available for this damage amp.
Mechanical Tips
- During the intermission when you are on the platforms be sure to focus target the Manaforged Titan. Your next priority is the Nexus-Prince.
Mythic Difficulty
- During the intermission the Nexus-Prince adds are shielded,
which is a good opportunity to make sure you are using
Shadow Word: Death to take advantage of
Devour Matter as a
Voidweaver.

Note that if you do not yet have the new Season 3 tier set bonus
I strongly suggest you play Archon.

Tips for Dimensius for Shadow Priest
This boss was not testable on PTR, below information is more generic until we get time to test the boss on live servers.
Defensive Tips
- Be sure to use at least
Fade for each cast of
Devour.
- If you are assigned to soak part of an
Antimatter be sure to use a defensive.
Cooldown Usage
- There is no specific cooldown usage for this boss.
Mechanical Tips
- Be sure to focus down the Living Mass adds when active.
Mythic Difficulty
- There are no specific tips for this boss on Mythic difficulty.

Note that if you do not yet have the new Season 3 tier set bonus
I strongly suggest you play Archon.

General Offensive Cooldown Usage
As a Shadow Priest, you want to generally sync up your cooldown together. The typical sequence for cooldowns is the following:
Shadowfiend,
Mindbender, or
Voidwraith
Halo as
Archon
Void Eruption or
Dark Ascension
Power Infusion
- Most on-use trinkets
Void Torrent
Note that with Shadowfiend, it does not sync nicely
with certain cooldowns, but you should still plan to use this on cooldown.
The above list is not a strict opener; for full details on the opener and the rotation, check out the rotation page.
In addition to the general rotation, you want to keep in mind that your goal is to use your cooldowns as often as possible during an encounter. With that in mind, your secondary goal is to use them at the correct time.
I highly suggest using some Addon or WeakAura to track the estimated time to
die of your target/boss target.
Method
Raid Tools has this as an option if you are already using this addon.
By tracking time to die, if you know that you can only fit one more cycle of
your cooldowns in before the boss dies, you can choose to hold these cooldowns
to better line up with Twist of Fate,
Bloodlust, or any other
mechanic that would make burning cooldowns better.
General Defensive Cooldown Usage
Shadow Priest has several defensive spells that you should plan to use and rotate
throughout mechanics. You should opt to use the smaller cooldown spells often
as needed with incoming mechanics and save bigger cooldowns like Dispersion
for large incoming damage.
Flash Heal with
Protective Light talented.
Power Word: Shield for a small absorb.
Fade with
Translucent Image talented.
Desperate Prayer
Dispersion
We also have a few notable passive talents that increase our defense:
Mental Fortitude
Manipulation
Light's Inspiration
Angelic Bulwark
