Guide to Leveling Jewelcrafting and Making Gold in Shadowlands
This page covers everything you need to know about leveling Jewelcrafting in the Shadowlands expansion from 1-100, as well as how to make gold with the profession.
Jewelcrafting in Shadowlands
Jewelcrafting allows you to create gems to socket in gear, as well as bind-on-equip rings and necklaces, including Legendary base items, which can be infused with Soul Ash by the Runecarver in Torghast in order to gain unique powers.
You can also make a transmogrify headpiece, Crown of the Righteous, which is very cheap to make and does look quite nice as you can see for yourself below!
Leveling Jewelcrafting from 1-100 in Shadowlands
Reaching 100 skill in Shadowlands Jewelcrafting is quick, and you will probably make a profit while leveling, as ores are quite cheap and the gems sell very well with the extra sockets available, not to mention the bind on equip gear which people buy to quickly gain item level to access the LFG system.
The trainer can be found in Oribos, in the southwestern part of the Hall of Shapes:
1-45 Shadowlands Jewelcrafting
Prospect ore ( Laestrite Ore tends to be the cheapest) until Level 20 and Mass Prospect more ore until Level 45.
You can use the resulting materials to make more gold later, so this comes at either no cost or a profit!
45-70 Shadowlands Jewelcrafting
This is where we start to get into the most common wares of Jewelcrafting, making gems to socket into gear is the bread and butter of the profession, and will usually earn you a few gold pieces while leveling up.
70-100 Shadowlands Jewelcrafting
You will be crafting more gems and some bind on equip gear until Level 100, which often sells well as it is a fast and cheap way to gear up new characters for the LFG system. Remember to use the gems you crafted in the previous step as materials for this final step!
Total Materials for 5 Deadly Sinvyr Ring, 5 Quick Jewel Cluster and 8 Quick Oxxein Necklace: 10 Deadly Jewel Cluster, 16 Quick Jewel Cluster, 16 Oxxein Ore, 10 Sinvyr Ore, 20 Oriblase, 5 Laestrite Setting (vendor) and 21 Malleable Wire (vendor).
Making Gold with Jewelcrafting in Shadowlands
Making Gold with Jewelcrafting is all about buying cheap ore or gems and either prospecting it in hopes of hitting expensive gems or crafting gear and gems that might be well priced in the auction house at the moment, such as Legendaries. Check the prices of various gems and Jewelcrafting gear on your server with The Undermine Journal and use that information to guide you on what you should be crafting, as that can vary a lot between servers.
Typically selling gems in the afternoon of hot raid days such as Wednesday and Sunday is a good bet!
Crafting Legendaries is one of the main benefits of being a Jewelcrafter in Shadowlands. It also helps that the materials to craft these tend to be much cheaper than those needed for the other Legendary gear, and as such these are appealing slots for cost-conscious players.
In order to learn how to craft legendaries, talk to the Runecarver in Torghast once you have 100 skill points in Jewelcrafting. Afterwards, you are able to learn the legendary base item recipes at your trainer in Oribos, for 25g each.
There are currently 4 ranks of Legendaries you can craft, with each new rank requiring more materials, having higher item level and requiring more Soul Ash. Because you can only craft a ring or an amulet, it is much easier and cheaper to hit the highest ranks, overall. Here are the materials for each legendary rank:
|Name||Rank||Crafting Materials Required|
|Shadowghast Ring||1||20 Shadowghast Ingot, 10 Essence of Rebirth, 10 Essence of Torment, 10 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Ring||2||30 Shadowghast Ingot, 15 Essence of Rebirth, 15 Essence of Torment, 15 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Ring||3||50 Shadowghast Ingot, 25 Essence of Rebirth, 25 Essence of Torment, 25 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Ring||4||80 Shadowghast Ingot, 40 Essence of Rebirth, 40 Essence of Torment, 40 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Necklace||1||20 Shadowghast Ingot, 10 Essence of Rebirth, 10 Essence of Torment, 10 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Necklace||2||30 Shadowghast Ingot, 15 Essence of Rebirth, 15 Essence of Torment, 15 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Necklace||3||50 Shadowghast Ingot, 25 Essence of Rebirth, 25 Essence of Torment, 25 Orboreal Shard|
|Shadowghast Necklace||4||80 Shadowghast Ingot, 40 Essence of Rebirth, 40 Essence of Torment, 40 Orboreal Shard|
You will learn how to craft the next rank every time you craft 15 legendaries of a given rank, as the experience needed and experience awarded per craft increase equally.
Rank 5 and 6 Legendaries
When you craft a base Legendary piece, adding a Vestige to it as an optional reagent will upgrade the rank by an additional 2 ranks, up to Rank 6. So, using this on a Rank 3 or 4 base when you craft one will give you a Rank 5 or 6 base, instead.
You can learn how to craft Vestige of Origins with Tome of Origins, obtained from the new Death's Advance reputation at Honored for for 2000 Stygia. The Vestiges are expensive to make, as they require 40 Korthite Crystal, which are found when doing Korthia content.
You can craft rings and necklaces with multiple stat distributions that always have a socket, making them naturally more powerful than gear at a similar item level. These typically sell well for new characters, and are very cheap to make.
While it is a activity with a high degree of randomness, simply buying cheap ore and prospecting it for a chance at more valuable gems than the cost of the ore you just prospected is a quick and easy way to make gold with Jewelcrafting, as long as you are not unlucky, that is!
Besides the secondary stat gems that players always need to socket into their gear, you can also craft special gems such as Straddling Jewel Doublet and Revitalizing Jewel Doublet, which have special niche uses on speed and solo farming gear sets.
You can craft Crown of the Righteous for a profit, although it might sell somewhat slowly, as most transmog pieces do. Make sure to check prices and sell volumes before committing to a lot of stock here!
Crafter's Marks (Item Level Upgrades)
Like all professions, jewelcrafters can craft item upgrade optional reagents such as Crafter's Mark II These are optional reagents that increase the item level of crafted gear when used while crafting. In Patch 9.1, there are two new ranks, for a total of four:
- Crafter's Mark I is learned from the Jewelcrafting Trainer in Oribos.
- Crafter's Mark II is bought from Venari in The Maw.
- Crafter's Mark III is bought from the new Death's Advance reputation at Honored reputation.
- Crafter's Mark of the Chained Isle can be purchased from Archivist Roh-Suir once you are Rank 4 in the new The Archivist's Codex reputation.
Jewelcrafters can make two new Statues in Patch 9.1: Porous Stone Statue and Shaded Stone Statue. These heal you for a short amount when placed on the ground, making them decently useful, especially while soloing.
