Azerite Essences for Beast Mastery Hunters

Introduced in Patch 8.2, Essences are unique items that drop from various forms of content. They are activated through your Heart of Azeroth Icon Heart of Azeroth, and they buff your character in various ways, depending on the Essences that are currently active.

Our Essence Guide has a full list of all the Essences, together with their descriptions and explanations on how they work.

What follows on this page will relate directly to how Essences affect this spec, since generic information is beyond the scope of this guide.

Disclaimer: Please note that at the moment, simulations and general theorycrafting around Essences is a work in progress, and as a result, most of the recommendations made here are subject to change.

3.

Essences' Effects on the Beast Mastery Hunter Rotation

Most Major Essences come with an active ability that must be used correctly to give you optimal DPS. We describe a few of them here.

It is worth noting that Essence damage is not affected by Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath's damage bonus, or even Aspect of the Wild Icon Aspect of the Wild's Critical Strike bonus. They do not scale with Mastery under any circumstances.

  • Condensed Life-Force Icon Condensed Life-Force's Guardian of Azeroth Icon Guardian of Azeroth has a 3-minute cooldown, and should be used with strong cooldowns like Aspect of the Wild Icon Aspect of the Wild as much as possible. The Guardian does not benefit from Aspect, but it provides you with a damage and Haste buff that will be more powerful during Aspect. Most importantly, however, you should not delay the Essence so much that you lose a cast of it.
  • Blood of the Enemy Icon Blood of the Enemy has a 1.5-minute cooldown, and should be used on cooldown. It is worth saving it for multi-target scenarios, or Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath if you do not have to delay it too much. It is best to use right before entering Bestial Wrath, to benefit from the Critical Strike bonus during it.
  • The Crucible of Flame Icon The Crucible of Flame's Concentrated Flame Icon Concentrated Flame should be used on cooldown in situations where you would otherwise cast Cobra Shot Icon Cobra Shot. You should never cast two Concentrated Flames within 6 seconds of each other, as this will overwrite and waste ticks of the Ancient Flame Icon Ancient Flame DoT.
  • Essence of the Focusing Iris Icon Essence of the Focusing Iris' Focused Azerite Beam Icon Focused Azerite Beam should be used when there are multiple targets up in the fight. If it is a single-target fight, you should mostly just use it on cooldown. It can often be worth delaying it so that you will not cast it during Bestial Wrath Icon Bestial Wrath, in order to leave room for abilities that actually benefit from Bestial Wrath.
