Delves Guide for Midnight
Delves in Midnight offer a blend of quick, challenging adventures that are perfect for both solo players and groups. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know, from basic mechanics and strategic tips to the rewards you can earn.
Introduction
Delves are bite-sized, role-agnostic, repayable world instances that allow you to engage in quick yet rewarding adventures. Delves can be experienced solo or in a group of up to 5 players alongside a customizable NPC companion. In this guide, we will cover everything you need to know about Delves in Midnight.
What Are Delves?
Delves are short, 10-15 minute scenarios designed to fit into your gameplay schedule and contribute to your character's progression, as they provide credit toward the Great Vault rewards in Midnight.
Unlike dungeons and raids, Delves can be completed solo or with a group of up to 5 players. The flexibility combined with their role-agnostic nature makes Delves accessible to all types of players.
Key Features
Delves are designed to be replayable, with varying levels of difficulty and rewards. The season companion can be customized to fit your playstyle, whether you need a healer, a damage dealer, or a tank character. Delves have 11 Tiers of difficulty, providing a challenging experience for players of all skill levels.
Navigating Delves: Finding Entrances on the Map
When exploring Quel'Thalas, you will find each delve marked on your Map with a unique cave icon, making it easier to locate them as you travel through the zones.
As you approach the icon on the Map, check your surroundings for cave openings, ruins, and other visual cues in the environment.
The Delve Locations in Midnight Zones
The War Within contains a total of 10 Delves as of Patch 12.0. Below you will find a table with their locations:
| Eversong Woods | Zul'Aman | Harandar | Voidstorm | Isle of Quel'Danas |
| Collegiate Calamity | Atal'Aman | The Grudge Pit | Shadowguard Point | Parhelion Plaza |
| The Darkway | Twilight Crypts | The Gulf of Memory | Sunkiller Sanctum | |
| The Shadow Enclave |
Understanding the Delves UI Window at the Entrance
When you approach the entrance to a Delve, you will be greeted by a special User Interface window that provides important information to prepare you for your run.
At the top of the UI, the name of the Delve is displayed. Beneath it, you will find a dropdown menu that lets you select the Tier of difficulty. Higher tiers are more challenging, but also give you better rewards.
The UI also provides a brief description of your main objectives in a Delve. For example, your task is to disrupt the Shadowguard Ethereal operations. Make sure to read this before entering, so you are aware of the primary goals.
On the right side, the UI lists the rewards you will receive upon completing the Delve. Rewards
typically include Experience for your companion and the treasure room contains chests that you can
open for gear,
Voidlight Marls, Midnight profession reagents, and more.
Meet Valeera Sanguinaar, the Midnight Delve Companion
Valeera Sanguinar will be your delve companion throughout the Midnight expansion. Your NPC companion comes with a fully customizable role and curios, allowing you to tailor her abilities to best support your journey through the various Delves in Quel'Thalas.
To make the most of Valeera's abilities, check out our comprehensive guide to Valeera Sanguinar, where we dive deep into her Talent Tree, best curios to equip, and strategies for optimizing her performance in your delve adventures.
Understanding Bountiful Delves in Midnight
Bountiful Delves have glowing icons compared to regular Delves and offer increased rewards
because they provide access to Bountiful Coffers found at the end of your run. These special
chests can be opened with
Restored Coffer Keys that you can get by collecting
Coffer Key Shards from world activities and quests.
A timer will be displayed indicating the remaining time before another Delve becomes Bountiful. As a rule, Bountiful Delves are rerolled on the daily reset.
You should always prioritize completing Bountiful Delves over regular Delves to get better loot. Non-Bountiful Delves do not have scaling rewards past Tier 3.
Gearing in Delves: Earn Progress Towards the Great Vault
Regular Delves only drop non-upgradeable gear regardless the tier, which is why you should focus on completing Bountiful Delves that offer better gear with increasing difficulty.
Completing 2/4/8 Delves unlocks items in the Great Vault the following week! To maximize your rewards and receive Hero-track gear in your vault, you should complete 8 Tier 8 runs every week. Check out our separate guide for even more information about how the weekly chest works.
Here are the item levels of loot from Delves in The War Within Pre-Patch:
| Delve Tier | End of Run Loot Item Level | Great Vault Loot Item Level |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 220 (Adventurer 1/6) | 233 (Veteran 1/6) |
| 2 | 224 (Adventurer 2/6) | 237 (Veteran 2/6) |
| 3 | 227 (Adventurer 3/6) | 240 (Veteran 3/6) |
| 4 | 230 (Adventurer 4/6) | 243 (Veteran 4/6) |

| 6 | 240 (Veteran 2/6) | 253 (Champion 3/6) |
| 7 | 246 (Champion 1/6) | 256 (Champion 4/6) |
| 8+ | 250 (Champion 2/6) | 259 (Hero 1/6) |
Delves Difficulty
Delves are divided into 11 tiers of difficulty, with Tier 1 being the easiest and Tier 11 the most difficult.
To unlock Tier 4+, you need to earn the
Midnight Delves: Endgame achievement on at least 1
character.
You do not need to unlock tiers for each delve separately. When you complete say, The Shadow Enclave on Tier 7, Tier 8 will unlock for all Delves.
It is important to note that loot scales only up to Tier 8. Tiers 9-11 are for crests only and do not offer better loot.

Delver's Bounty
Once per week, you can loot
Delver's Bounty from Delves, with the biggest chance coming
from Nullaeus, the Delve nemesis for Midnight Season 1. Bringing him down to 50%
will spawn a pile of gold with the bounty and other loot. Using a Delver's Bounty map during the same
run will provide you with a Hidden Trove at the end of your run a Delve, scaling with the
tier of your Delve.
It is recommended to save your
Delver's Bounty for Tier 8+ Delves, as this is when you'll
get the maximum rewards from it.
Beacon of Hope is an item you can buy from Naleidea Rivergleam at the Delver's
Headquarters in Silvermoon for 5,000
Undercoins. With this item, you can summon Nullaeus
to your delve after reaching the checkpoint. Here is how to do it.
Enter a delve and reach the delve checkpoint and clear the surrounding area. Then, use
Beacon of Hope to summon Nullaeus and bring him down to 50%. Loot the gold pile, get the
Delver's Bounty and use it before killing the delve boss.
Delve Mechanics in Midnight Season 1
Delves feature various mechanics that improve the depth and complexity of each run. Below are key elements you will encounter during your runs.
Nemesis Strongbox
At Tier 4+, Nullaeus's allies will be present in Delves. The mobs will carry the Pactsworn prefix in their name. Watch out for them, as they are more powerful compared to regular mobs you will face during your runs.
Defeating packs of these groups will provide you with better loot inside the Nemesis Strongbox at the end of your run. A message will pop up when your loot in that chest is upgraded.
You can see the locarion of all Nemesis packs on your map. They will be indicated with gray helm icons.
Nemesis Strongboxes mostly contain crafting materials.
Boons and Blessings
Early on in your Midnight Delver's Journey you will unlock boons and blessings. These are temporary buffs to make delve completion easier.
Boons are obtained from looting Mislaid Curiosities through Delves and give you temporary stat buffs for the duration of the Delve you're currently in:
Boon of Abstinence: Increases your lowest secondary stat.
Boon of Fortitude: Reduces damage taken.
Boon of Possibilities: Increases a random secondary stat.
Boon of Potency: Increases your highest secondary stat.
Boon of Power: Increases your primary stat.
Boon of Vigor: Increases your maximum health and movement speed.
Blessings are obtained from looting the end of chest Delves, and grant you a buff that lasts either 24 hours, or until you complete your next delve. These buffs only work inside Delves.
Blessing of Zeal: Your harmful spells and abilities have a chance to cause an explosion
on impact, inflicting moderate Fire damage split evenly between nearby enemies.
Blessing of Potency: All stats increased by 10%.
Crimson Blessing: You are granted one additinal Delve life.
Sentinel's Blessing: Gain 50% of your maximum health as an absorption shield for 1 minute
whenever your health falls below 20% during combat. Can only occur once every 5 minutes.
Veiled Blessing: Knock back surrounding enemies when you get hit in melee range. Can
only occur once every minute.
Gilded Crests from Tier 11 Bountiful Delves
Completing a Tier 11 Bountiful delve with lives remaining will grant you a
Gilded Stash,
which gives you 7
Myth Dawncrests. You can complete this up to 3 times for a total of 21
Myth Dawncrests from Delves per week. You do not need
Restored Coffer Keys to open them.
This is unlocked at Rank 4 of the Midnight Season 1 Delver's Journey.
Delve Basics
Here are some basics that apply to all delve runs.
Explorers' League Supplies
At the beginning of each delve and at its checkpoint, you will find Explorers' League Supplies. This interactive object allows you to repair your gear or set up curios and specializations for your NPC Companion.
Delve Objectives
Most Delves consist of 2-3 scenario-like objectives that must be completed before you can face the final boss. These objectives will change every day, on the daily reset. There are multiple variations of objectives for each delve.
As an example, in one of the Grudge Pit variants, you need to enter an arena tournament by facing different waves of fungalings as you participate in their championship. Another variants has you helping fungalings against a Lightbloom Rutaani invasion.
Sturdy Chests
Inside Delves, you will come across Sturdy Chests hidden in various locations. These are a
one-time chest loot that contains Companion Experience and
Voidlight Marl.
Looting all Sturdy Chests inside all Midnight Delves grants the
Midnight: Leave No Treasure Unfound
achievement, which grants the title Seeker of Loot and is part of the
Glory of the Midnight Delver
meta achievement.
Mislaid Curiosities
Mislaid Curiosities are small bags found on the ground that contain Companion Experience, Boons and Delve consumables. These can also sometimes contain Midnight profession reagents. these can also be used to activate certain Curio abilities for your delve companion.
Rare Elites and Special Powers
Inside Delves, Rare Elites will be marked on your map with a special icon. Once defeated, they will grant you or Valeera a powerful buff for the rest of your run.
In Midnight Season 1, you can obtain 4 possible powers from Delve Rare Elites:
- Defeating Clever Saptor grants
Cleverer Girl: Clever saptors occasionally ambush
your foes during combat. - Defeating Paingolin grants
Pan-GO-lin Time: Increases movement speed the longer
you keep moving. Breaks when entering combat. - Defeating Wailing Spirit grants
Banshee Wail: Occasionally unleash a
banshee wail in combat, freezing nearby targets in fear. - Defeating Abandoned Sentinel grants
Rock'em Sock'em Sentinel Gauntlets: Critical
strikes deal double damage and may knock your target into the air.
Checkpoints in Delves
As you progress through Delves, you will find checkpoints strategically placed close to the final objective before the boss encounter. These checkpoints look like summoning stones.
After you reach a checkpoint, when you die, you will respawn at the checkpoint, instead of the start of the delve. At these checkpoints, you can sell gear, adjust Valeera's abilities, and repair your gear. Reaching the checkpoint will also grant you +1 Revive.
Revives in Delves
When you enter a delve, you will notice a "Revives Remaining" counter in the Delve UI. The counter shows how many times you and your party members can die and respawn inside the same delve. Every time a player releases their spirit after death, one revive is subtracted from the total.
The number of revives remaining at the end of the delve directly impacts the quality of the rewards you receive at the end of your run, so it is very important to play cautiously. As you progress in Delve tiers, you will receive less revives:
- Tiers 1-3: No death limit.
- Tiers 4-8: 5 Revives.
- Tiers 9: 4 Revives.
- Tiers 10-11: 3 Revives.
When you lose all your revives in a Bountiful Delve, you will not receivea Bountiful Chest at the end of it. It is recommended to zone out and start anew.
Final Boss
At the end of the delve, you must fight a boss to unlock the treasure room and reap rewards. The final boss might change between delve variants, and some delve variants may not have a final boss at all, but a final objective that does reflect a similar difficulty to a final boss.
For each death while facing the final boss, you will receive a stack of
Delver's Determination. It increases your health, damage dealt, and healing received by 5%
per stack.
Treasure Room
When you defeat the final boss, you will reach the Treasure Room, which consists of multiple loot chests. These chests usually are composed of two Delve Trunks, one Bountiful Coffer (if you've completed a Bountiful Delve), a Nemesis Supplies chest (if you've defeated any Nemesis packs in The Delve), and a Gilded Stash (if completing a Delve on Tier 11 after unlockling it in the Delver's Journey.
Bountiful Coffer
Found only inside Bountiful Delves, Bountiful Coffer is an epic chest that contains the best
loot. It requires
Restored Coffer Keys to open.
