Brewmaster Monk Tank Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible Raid Guide — Dragonflight 10.2.7
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Brewmaster Monk for each boss of the following raid: Aberrus, the Shadowed Crucible. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Dragonflight 10.2.7.
Introduction
On this page, you will find Brewmaster Monk-specific information to deal with each boss in the Aberrus raid.
This page assumes that you already understand most of the mechanics of each encounter. These can be found on the full raid guide, so what is contained here are details specifically tailored toward Brewmaster Monks and what you can do to deal with each fight as best as possible.
Resetting Encounters with Transcendence
All Monk specializations — but especially Brewmasters — are capable of resetting most boss encounters with the use of Transcendence and Transcendence: Transfer. This can be especially useful in a progression environment to save on repair costs and allow players to keep their consumable buffs, such as food from a Hoard of Draconic Delicacies. All you have to do as a Monk is place your Transcendence spirit beyond the area that will normally be closed off after engaging the boss. Then, if you would like to reset the encounter, get the boss's attention with Provoke and teleport outside the encounter area with Transcendence: Transfer. If done successfully, the boss will follow you outside and despawn.
Unless otherwise used during an encounter or mentioned in its tips section, it is highly recommended to get into the habit of setting up this form of fight reset. However, you should never feel forced to do so if there is a point in an encounter that you prefer having access to one of your most powerful mobility tools.
Talent Selection
The first talent tree below is recommended for general use in raid encounters. Be aware that you may switch some points to gain specific utility against certain mechanics, which we will mention on specific bosses where relevant. If you are more comfortable with playing your Brewmaster, there is also an alternative build available to focus more on optimizing your damage; many of its talents will also be mentioned as potential adjustments per encounter. Remember that you can also easily import the talent trees below into the game with either of the two "Copy Export String" buttons:

Kazzara, the Hellforged
Talent Adjustments
For this fight, use the generic raiding build linked above. As it is an exclusively single-target encounter, you may wish to potentially talent into Blackout Combo/ Face Palm for slightly more damage.
Tips
- Swap tanking duties after every cast of Terror Claws; do not underestimate how hard the initial hit can be.
- As a tank player, you are unable to be targeted by Dread Rifts or Rays of Anguish unless there are not enough players of other roles alive.
- Avoid being knocked into any Dread Rifts by Wings of Extinction.
- As Kazzara loses health and more Dread Rifts and Rays of Anguish are formed, begin moving her to other areas of the room to give players more space to deal with these mechanics.
For more information, please refer to our Kazzara guide.
The Amalgamation Chamber
Talent Adjustments
Although there are two bosses present for the first part of this encounter, they must be kept far enough apart that you will only ever be fighting in single-target throughout. You may also potentially talent into Blackout Combo/ Face Palm for slightly more damage.
Tips
- Due to Elemental Instability, the Essence of Shadow and
Eternal Blaze must be kept at least 25 yards away from each other at all
times. They must additionally remain at least 50 yards away from each other to
avoid receiving both the Blazing Heat and Corrupting Shadow
debuffs.
- This means you will not be able to remove your stacks of Corrupting Shadow or Blazing Heat until the Shadowflame Amalgamation appears.
- If tanking the Essence of Shadow, be ready to move through an open gap during each Shadows Convergence, and to move far away from each Coalescing Void.
- If tanking the Eternal Blaze, be ready to soak any Molten Eruptions that are near you and will not be reached by another player in time.
- Be aware that Eternal Blaze's Fiery Meteor will be placed directly in front of the boss and should be soaked by multiple players. You can help do so with just Dampen Harm, Diffuse Magic, Zen Meditation, or Fortifying Brew in combination with Celestial Brew.
- Once the Shadowflame Amalgamation is formed from either the Essence of Shadow or Eternal Blaze reaching 50% HP, you will alternate tanking duties after every cast of Withering Vulnerability, making sure not to hit the other tank with the following Shadowflame Burst. Be aware that Gloom Conflagration will also require at least 5 players to soak its damage, and will be placed much like Fiery Meteor was.
The Forgotten Experiments
Talent Adjustments
This fight focuses largely on single-target damage, with some brief periods of fighting multiple adds with low health on Heroic difficulty. As such, the default build will be sufficient. Be aware that on Mythic difficulty, you will be fighting two bosses at a time for much of the fight instead; this makes Stormstout's Last Keg a viable option!
Tips
- General tips:
- Throughout this fight, you will receive stacks of Infused Strikes
from every boss's auto attacks. These are removed by having both tanks receive
at least one stack before running into each other to immediately remove them and
apply Infused Explosion to the raid.
- You should only apply Infused Explosion once every 20 seconds.
- Throughout this fight, you will receive stacks of Infused Strikes
from every boss's auto attacks. These are removed by having both tanks receive
at least one stack before running into each other to immediately remove them and
apply Infused Explosion to the raid.
- When fighting Neldris:
- Avoid being in the path of Rending Charge.
- Quickly move away during each cast of Bellowing Roar.
- When fighting Thadrion:
- Be sure to not be the closest player to someone with Unstable Essence when it is dispelled, or the debuff will jump to you and make things more complicated.
- On Heroic, move your bosses to the Erratic Remnants whenever they are created from the removal of Unstable Essence to assist in cleave damage.
- When fighting Rionthus:
- You can use Tiger's Lust to remove the DoT and snare on players affected by Disintegrate, though this is largely unnecessary.
- Do not let any Temporal Anomaly orbs reach Rionthus; move him away or run into them to knock them away. Note in Mythic you will receive Temporal Fracture for 20 seconds every time that you do.
For more information, please refer to our Forgotten Experiments guide.
Rashok, the Elder
Talent Adjustments
For this fight, use the generic raiding build linked above. As it is an exclusively single-target encounter, you may wish to potentially talent into Blackout Combo/ Face Palm for slightly more damage.
Tips
- Throughout this fight, you will be moving Rashok around the room as more Lava Vortexes are created with each Searing Slam.
- Tanking duties will alternate based on the sequence of abilities cast during each Wrath of Djaruun combo. The most important thing to remember is that you cannot take two casts of Flaming Slash or Earthen Crush in a row.
- Every player in the raid group must stand in each Charged Smash to prevent Rashok from gaining extra Energy and triggering Ancient Fury.
- Rashok's casting of Shadowlava Blast is your cue to move him into the Elder's Conduit in the center of the room. If he is moved into the Conduit before Smoldering Rage has expired, you will wipe.
For more information, please refer to our Rashok the Elder guide.
Assault of the Zaqali
Talent Adjustments
This fight is the main AoE encounter of the raid, with plenty of targets to fight at the same time. As such, pick up Stormstout's Last Keg, consider dropping a point of High Tolerance for Blackout Combo.
Tips
- Be sure to face Warlord Kagni away from other players so that they do not get hit by Heavy Cudgel.
- For most of the fight, you will be on a separate platform from your cotank. This means you will be responsible for gaining threat on all Magma Mystics, Obsidian Guards, Flamebound Hunstmen, and Zaqali Wallclimbers that spawn.
- In Mythic difficulty, you will also have to deal with Ignara as she moves between platforms and pushes you back with Vigorous Gale.
- Upon reaching 30% HP, Warlord Kagni will return to the center of the balcony. At this time, you must again face him away from other players to avoid hitting them with Flaming Cudgel, swapping tanking duties after receiving two hits from the ability.
- Roughly half of your raid's players must stand by the door being charged at with each Catastrophic Slam to split the damage and avoid triggering a Barrier Backfire. Avoid soaking this mechanic while affected by Flaming Cudgel or Weakened Vitality.
For more information, please refer to our Assault of the Zaqali guide.
The Vigilant Steward, Zskarn
Talent Adjustments
This encounter features an occasional set of adds spawning in far-away corners of the room. As such, you may wish to talent into Stormstout's Last Keg, if you wish.
Tips
- Throughout the fight, Zskarn will trigger multiple Dragonfire Traps on the ground; the two nearest to where he is standing will always be activated. Plan your positioning accordingly, keeping the middle of the room as clean as possible.
- Swap tanking duties upon reaching 6-7 stacks of Searing Claws, or whenever your debuff has fallen off. Due to spellqueueing, this may instead be at up to 12 stacks!
- Whichever tank is not currently being attacked by Zskarn should focus on
clearing any Shrapnel Bombs in the encounter area. As a Brewmaster,
you are uniquely strong in this role due to the power of Stagger, along with
being able to use Transcendence to more quickly get around.
- A common alternative strategy is to use a third tank for this encounter, with them solely focusing on clearing these Shrapnel Bombs instead.
- Be aware that Zskarn will always activate the statues closest to him during each Tactical Destruction.
- The Dragonfire Golems created by each cast of Animate Golems do not need to be tanked, but be aware that they are susceptible to crowd control such as Paralysis, Leg Sweep, Ring of Peace, and even Clash.
Magmorax
Talent Adjustments
For this fight, use the generic raiding build linked above. As it is an exclusively single-target encounter, you may wish to potentially talent into Blackout Combo/ Face Palm for slightly more damage. Although it does sacrifice access to an additional defensive cooldown, Yu'lon's Grace will provide plenty of passive healing over the course of this encounter.
Tips
- Do not let Magmorax enter any Magma Puddles under any circumstances, or he will immediately trigger a Blazing Tantrum.
- Alternate tanking duties after every set of three Incinerating Maws. Be aware that the third hit, in particular, will be the most deadly, so save your Celestial Brew for it, while still having defensives like Diffuse Magic and Dampen Harm cover the entire chain.
- Although you can stand in Magma Puddles to reduce their size
and remove them entirely, avoid reaching 25 stacks of Searing Heat
from doing so, or you will immediately be Incinerated in Heroic
difficulty.
- Note that on Mythic difficulty, your stacks of Searing Heat are permanent, but you will instead be Incinerated at 50 stacks.
- Make use of Transcendence and Transcendence: Transfer to negate the knockback from Overpowering Stomp and prevent Magmorax from accidentally wandering into any Magma Puddles.
- If you are not actively tanking Magmorax, take advantage of your mobility such as Roll and Tiger's Lust to help catch projectiles of Lava Ejection before they explode.
For more information, please refer to our Magmorax guide.
Echo of Neltharion
Talent Adjustments
This fight focuses largely on single-target damage, with some brief periods of fighting multiple adds with low health in the final phase and a few larger adds beforehand. As such, the default build above will be sufficient, or you can opt into Stormstout's Last Keg for more "padding" in the later fight sections.
Tips
- Note that Transcendence is a particularly useful ability on this fight, as it enables you to bypass many of the restrictions created by Twisted Earth.
- The Echo of Neltharion's auto attacks are particularly deadly in this encounter. You may have to play more defensively than usual.
- Phase 1
- Avoid causing any players to be separated from the sections of Twisted Earth rising up from the floor. These formations block line of sight!
- The Echo of Neltharion will cast Echoing Fissure in the direction he is facing; face him toward the wall (but not directly against it) to limit its danger for players.
- Make use of Calamitous Strike to be knocked into sections of Twisted Earth and Shatter them to create more room for each subsequent Echoing Fissure, and alternate tanking duties with each cast.
- Intermission/Phase 2
- As the intermission ends, be ready for more sections of Twisted Earth
to emerge and again block the line of sight. Move Neltharion to a section where
a Voice From Beyond is and begin damaging it to remove its absorb from
Hidden in Void.
- If on Heroic difficulty, do not position Neltharion directly next to a Voice From Beyond, lest the players affected by Corruption get slain from passive cleave damage dealt to the boss while they are removing Hidden in Void instead.
- Be sure to not accidentally damage any players affected by Corruption, as they are hostile to you!
- When affected by Sunder Shadow, you may freely move through Twisted Earth. Use this time to stand in another section containing a different Voice From Beyond. Upon being hit by Shadow Strike, you will Shatter the Twisted Earth between where you were standing and your body's position. At this time, swap tanking duties.
- As the intermission ends, be ready for more sections of Twisted Earth
to emerge and again block the line of sight. Move Neltharion to a section where
a Voice From Beyond is and begin damaging it to remove its absorb from
Hidden in Void.
- Phase 3
- During this phase, the Echo of Neltharion will trigger Sunder Reality on nearby sections of Twisted Earth, creating portals that continuously spawn Twisted Aberration adds. Be ready to pick them up!
- During each cast of Ebon Destruction, stand in a portal to gain Sundered Reality and survive.
- While you may continue to use Calamitous Strike to Shatter pieces of Twisted Earth and limit the number of Sunder Reality portals creating Twisted Aberrations, this is generally not recommended. Instead, simply be knocked into one of the edges of the room.
- Be aware that there will be times when both you and your cotank are debuffed by Calamitous Strike. This is when you are most at risk of death to both the Twisted Aberrations and the Echo of Neltharion himself!
For more information, please refer to our Neltharion guide.
Scalecommander Sarkareth
Talent Adjustments
Scalecommander Sarkareth's encounter largely consists of fighting only one target, though Stormstout's Last Keg is still recommended for the occasional waves of adds in later phases. It also features a lot of movement over the course of the fight. If on Mythic, you must ensure you have Diffuse Magic talented.
Tips
- Throughout the fight, pay attention to your stacks of Oblivion. Reaching 10 stacks will always send you into the Emptiness Between Stars, a separate phase of the encounter area where you must run into three circles near your position to escape before your debuff expires and instantly kills you. However, while in this area, you may also grab up to 10 stacks of Astral Flare to gain additional Haste and movement speed! Consider doing so whenever you enter this location during the encounter.
- Phase 1
- Position Scalecommander Sarkareth near the edge of the platform, but make sure to not be knocked off during the brief pushback from Oppressing Howl.
- Rotate around the edge of the room with each cast of Scorching Bomb,
swapping tanking duties with every cast of Burning Claws.
- Be aware that you will damage the raid when Burning Claws expires based on how much damage your health received from its DoT effect. Consider using Celestial Brew, Diffuse Magic, Dampen Harm, and even Fortifying Brew in this phase to reduce the final explosion's power.
- Once you have been debuffed by Oppressing Howl, you must stand in one cast of Mass Disintegrate or Searing Breath to remove the effect, receiving the Disintegrated or Seared debuffs instead for the remainder of the phase. Failure to do so will cause you to be Dazzled at the end of the phase and very likely slain.
- If your damage is particularly high, Scalecommander Sarkareth will automatically enter Phase 2 upon reaching 65% health. Otherwise, this is a timed phase.
- Phase 2
- At the start of this phase, you will be automatically be given 10 stacks of Oblivion and sent to the Emptiness Between Stars. Do not interrupt End Existence until the cast has nearly completed to ensure everyone has returned — preferably with 10 stacks of Astral Flare!
- Continue rotating along the outer edge of the platform, being careful to not be knocked off by Abyssal Breath.
- Swap tanking duties after each cast of Void Claws, being sure to stay at least 20 yards away from other players when the debuff is about to expire.
- With each Abyssal Breath, allow Sarkareth to return to you rather than
moving to where he has landed, as many Null Glimmers will also spawn and
need to be gathered. Be sure to not allow them to finish a cast of
Blasting Scream; they are also susceptible to Leg Sweep!
- On Heroic difficulty, these Glimmers must also be moved through a Desolate Blossom to negate their passive healing from Rescind. This is an excellent job for Ring of Peace.
- In Heroic, be mindful of the knockback from Infinite Duress; Transcendence can be used to save you in an emergency.
- Phase 3
- Begin in the center of the room, running toward the edge when Sarkareth casts his first Cosmic Ascension to place Astral Formations in convenient locations. Be ready to gather the additional Null Glimmers that spawn from the center of the area. You will no longer be able to remove their Rescind healing buff in this phase.
- Alternate tanking duties with every cast of Void Slash. This mechanic will hit every player in front of Sarkareth; be especially careful!
- While you are debuffed by Void Slash, run into the small swirls of Motes of Oblivion falling from the sky to quickly reach 10 stacks of Oblivion and enter the Emptiness Between Stars before your debuff expires!
- On Heroic, continue to be mindful of the knockback from Infinite Duress.
- Hide behind an Astral Formation during each cast of Scouring Eternity to avoid being slain. You are also safe from this mechanic while in the Emptiness Between Stars.
