General Information

This page is a gear reference for Frost Death Knights. It lists your best items and Legendaries, gives you gearing advice, and shows you how you will be competing for loot with other classes.

The other pages of our Frost Death Knight guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Ertrak, a top Frost Death Knight who raids in Azshari Vegans.

1. Best in Slot List for Frost Death Knights

The current state of Frost Death Knight stats makes it so that creating any kind of predetermined best in slot list would be pointless. Instead, you should simply look to get the items with the most Strength you can find, while prioritising the stats that are most valuable to you at the moment (ideally simming your character).

2. Tier 21 Set Bonuses for Frost Death Knights

Both the 2-piece and 4-piece Tier 21 Set Bonuses are very good, and you should try to obtain them as soon as possible.

3. Frost Death Knight Trinkets

The best trinkets to use, in order are:

  1. Aman'Thul's Vision Icon Aman'Thul's Vision
  2. Khaz'goroth's Courage Icon Khaz'goroth's Courage
  3. Eye of Command Icon Eye of Command
  4. Shadow-Singed Fang Icon Shadow-Singed Fang (besides the pantheon trinkets, this is the easiest trinket on this list to obtain at a fairly high item level)
  5. Chaos Talisman Icon Chaos Talisman
  6. Cradle of Anguish Icon Cradle of Anguish
  7. Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal (lower on the list because it has a base item level of 860 or 910 if it is relinquished, however it can still compete with the legendaries above)

4. Legendary Items for Frost Death Knights

Legendary items have a high item level of 1000, which makes them extremely strong. They are so strong, in fact, that a legendary item is always going to be worth equipping over any other item you might have in that slot.

However, there is a limitation on the number of legendary items you can have equipped at any one time (by default 1, but by now most players should be able to equip 2). Since some legendary items are better than others, if you have more items than the limit, you will have to choose which ones to equip.

Below, we will do our best to guide you through this process, as well as provide any other relevant information.

We currently rank the legendary items as follows:

  1. Toravon's Whiteout Bindings Icon Toravon's Whiteout Bindings
  2. Koltira's Newfound Will Icon Koltira's Newfound Will (if you do not have the 4-piece Tier 21 set bonus, Cold Heart Icon Cold Heart might be better)
  3. Cold Heart Icon Cold Heart
  4. Sephuz's Secret Icon Sephuz's Secret (if you can get it to proc reliably then this can possibly replace Koltira's Newfound Will Icon Koltira's Newfound Will in a fight, is very strong in mythic+ as well)
  5. Perseverance of the Ebon Martyr Icon Perseverance of the Ebon Martyr
  6. Insignia of the Grand Army Icon Insignia of the Grand Army (depending on your tier 2 Netherlight Crucible traits)
  7. Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus
  8. Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish Icon Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish (is a strong legendary however it is tough to use because of how strong the current trinkets/ legendaries are for Frost)
  9. Seal of Necrofantasia Icon Seal of Necrofantasia
  10. Soul of the Deathlord Icon Soul of the Deathlord
  11. Consort's Cold Core Icon Consort's Cold Core (you can equip it out of combat before using Icon Sindragosa's Fury in Mythic+ to benefit from the cooldown reduction and then just remove it)
  12. Aggramar's Stride Icon Aggramar's Stride (it is always worth having this as a part of a speed set for questing and Mythic+)
  13. Acherus Drapes Icon Acherus Drapes

5. Loot Competition for Frost Death Knights

Apart from other Frost Death Knights, you will also be competing for items with the classes listed below:

Plate Armor Blood/Unholy Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors
