Table of Contents

General Information

This page is a gear reference for Frost Death Knights. It lists your best items and Legendaries, gives you gearing advice, and shows you how you will be competing for loot with other classes.

The other pages of our Frost Death Knight guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

About Our Reviewer

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Totemlord, a Frost Death Knight enthusiast and respected theorycrafter on the Frost Death Knight Discord. You can contact him on Discord under the name Nic#9561.

1. Best in Slot

The current state of Frost Death Knight stats makes it so that creating any kind of predetermined best in slot list would be pointless. Instead, you should simply look to get the items with the most Strength you can find, while prioritising the stats that are most valuable to you at the moment (considering the breakpoints, and ideally simming your character).

2. Tier 20 Set Bonus

The Tier 20 Set Bonuses (both 2 and 4-piece) are very powerful and we recommend taking them as quickly as you can.

3. Trinkets

The best trinkets to use, in order are:

  1. Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish Icon Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish
  2. Specter of Betrayal Icon Specter of Betrayal
  3. Eye of Command Icon Eye of Command
  4. Horn of Valor Icon Horn of Valor
  5. Cradle of Anguish Icon Cradle of Anguish

4. Legendary Items

Legendary items have a high item level of 970, which makes them extremely strong. They are so strong, in fact, that a legendary item is always going to be worth equipping over any other item you might have in that slot.

However, there is a limitation on the number of legendary items you can have equipped at any one time (by default 1, but by now most players should be able to equip 2). Since some legendary items are better than others, if you have more items than the limit, you will have to choose which ones to equip.

Below, we will do our best to guide you through this process, as well as provide any other relevant information.

Cold Heart Icon Cold Heart is currently the best legendary to use against a single target.

Toravon's Whiteout Bindings Icon Toravon's Whiteout Bindings is very strong and we consider it the second-best choice at the moment.

Seal of Necrofantasia Icon Seal of Necrofantasia is also very strong, but slightly weaker than Toravon's Whiteout Bindings Icon Toravon's Whiteout Bindings.

Koltira's Newfound Will Icon Koltira's Newfound Will is a decent legendary, and should be your next choice.

Perseverance of the Ebon Martyr Icon Perseverance of the Ebon Martyr is a decent legendary item.

Sephuz's Secret Icon Sephuz's Secret could be useful while leveling or doing solo content, but it is not a top tier legendary. That said, it is worth mentioning that it is theoretically a top legendary, provided that you can trigger it every roughly 45 seconds (by being able to interrupt often). This is rarely the case, but if you do have this item it is important to be on the look-out for any chance you can get to interrupt.

Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish Icon Kil'jaeden's Burning Wish is the best trinket you can have, although between legendary items it does not rank very highly.

Consort's Cold Core Icon Consort's Cold Core is currently a very weak choice.

Soul of the Deathlord Icon Soul of the Deathlord is only really worth considering for Mythic+ content, and in general it is not very desirable.

Acherus Drapes Icon Acherus Drapes doubles the duration of Anti-Magic Shell Icon Anti-Magic Shell, allowing you to trivialise many mechanics in various encounters.

Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus does not provide any DPS increase and as such it is not really as desirable as the other legendaries listed above. It could be good on some fights where survival is of paramount importance, but otherwise it is not appealing.

Aggramar's Stride Icon Aggramar's Stride cannot compete with the legendaries mentioned above.

5. Loot Competition

Apart from other Frost Death Knights, you will also be competing for items with the classes listed below:

Item Type Competing Classes
Tier Tokens Blood/Unholy Death Knights, Druids, Mages, and Rogues
Plate Armor Blood/Unholy Death Knights, Paladins, and Warriors
  • Amulets
  • Cloaks
  • Rings
Trinkets Unholy Death knights, Retribution Paladins, and Arms/Fury Warriors
