Subtlety Rogue DPS Stat Priority — 12.1

Last Updated: Aug 10, 2026 - 7:20 PM (7d ago)

On this page, you will find out the optimal stat priority for your Subtlety Rogue. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations on how the stats interact with your specialization and gameplay. Our content is updated for World of Warcraft Patch 12.1.

1.

Subtlety Rogue Stat Priority

We do not recommend fretting over stat priorities, as simming your gear is a far more objective and accurate way of determining the best gear for your character.

Item Level
Mastery
Haste (to 700+)
Versatility
Critical Strike

Due to Deepening Shadows Icon Deepening Shadows Subtlety has Haste breakpoints (or "caps") after which the value of Haste drops. For Season 2, the amount of Haste to aim for is somewhere between 700 and 1100 for both Trickster and Deathstalker. Unlike season 1 the breakpoint is not as strict so anywhere in that range is acceptable.

Critical Strike is less impactful because of Darkest Night Icon Darkest Night, which already has the crit guaranteed. Despite that, the Aqirbane Reliquary Icon Aqirbane Reliquary neck from Ula'tek is still exceptional because the amount of stats on it is insane.

FAQDoes the Subtlety stat priority change on multi-target?
Mastery gains even more value in Multi-Target situations.

In-Depth Stat Breakdown

Agility is your primary statistic. You should look for it in all of your upgrades. It provides you with Attack Power, which determines the damage your abilities do.

Mastery increases the damage of your combo point finishers through Mastery: Executioner Icon Mastery: Executioner.

Critical Strike increases your chance to critically hit with all spells and abilities. Critical strikes deal double damage by default, but several effects can increase your crit damage, and make critical strikes even stronger, for example: Planned Execution Icon Planned Execution.

Versatility simply increases damage done and damage reduces taken.

Haste increases your Energy regeneration, attack speed, the duration of Shadow Dance Icon Shadow Dance through Deepening Shadows Icon Deepening Shadows and reducing the cooldown of Secret Technique Icon Secret Technique. Increased attack speed generates extra Combo Points via Shadow Techniques Icon Shadow Techniques.

FAQIs there a Haste cap for Subtlety Rogue?
Yes, due to Deepening Shadows Icon Deepening Shadows Haste is very strong if it gets you one additional spell casted inside Shadow Dance Icon Shadow Dance and not very strong otherwise. The recommended Haste values give three additional globals inside Shadow Dance Icon Shadow Dance with a little bit of leeway. It also reduces the cooldown of Secret Technique Icon Secret Technique to roughly align with the cooldown of Shadow Dance Icon Shadow Dance.

Diminishing Returns on Stats

Every stat has a limit where they will begin to offer less increase per point gained, which are known as the points of diminishing return. Once you have reached these amounts, stats will become progressively less valuable and may fall behind other options. The current breakpoints are:

Stat 10% DR Rating 20% DR Rating 30% DR Rating
Mastery 1380 1840 2300
Critical Strike 1380 1840 2300
Haste 1320 1760 2200
Versatility 1620 2160 2700
