Windwalker Monk Battleground Blitz Guide — The War Within (11.1.5)
This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about playing Windwalker Monk in Battleground Blitz, including specific playstyle tips, talent builds, and much more.
Windwalker Monks in Battleground Blitz
Playstyle as Windwalker Monk
The main role of a Windwalker Monk in Battleground Blitz is to use your mobility to maintain uptime on enemy healers and relentlessly pressure them. To keep your team offensive, you will push in with your team to try to get
Leg Sweep stuns on multiple enemies. Be careful not to use all of your
mobility to reach the enemy healer. This will make it easy for teams to make
swaps to you. Setup a
Transcendence port before you push in so you can use
Transcendence: Transfer if you are taking heavy damage.
Talent Choices for Windwalker Monk
Here is the talent build you will be using to maximize your damage output:
Recommended PvP Talents for Windwalker Monk
Turbo Fists
Rising Dragon Sweep
Absolute Serenity
Because you will be the primary focus for most teams, Turbo Fists gives you the extra survivability you need to keep yourself alive in team fights.
Rising Dragon Sweep gives Windwalker Monks an AoE knock-up effect that can be used to interrupt multiple enemies at the same time. Finally,
Absolute Serenity makes you immune to all crowd control while channeling
Celestial Conduit. This is powerful for multiple reasons. The first is that it guarantees your strong burst damage will not be interrupted while channeling Celestial Conduit. The second is that you can use this to spin flags and nodes while waiting for teammates to support you.
Crowd Control as Windwalker Monk
In Battleground Blitz, without the Arena Dampening effect, healers, when left alone, are able to sustain against many players with relative ease. The way to counter the high throughput of healers in Battleground Blitz is with the effective use of crowd control.
Monk has many tools in its kit to aid with this:
Leg Sweep
Paralysis
Ring of Peace
Note: Be careful with Paralysis! This will dispel all DoTs on the target, and you could be removing quite a bit of damage if you have an Affliction Warlock or Shadow Priest on your team. Finally, although it is not a hard crowd control spell,
Ring of Peace can be used in many creative ways. It can be used to interrupt a spell if a healer is out of range. It can also be used to spin a flag to stop enemies from capping it. This is a versatile spell that should be used often in battlegrounds.
Windwalker Monk Defensives
Leg Sweep should be used for crowd control on the enemy healer most of the time. If you are being focused and cannot get away or receive help from your teammates, use
Leg Sweep to stun enemies near you.
Transcendence should be the first cooldown you use when being focused, especially if your healer is in crowd control. Use this to port behind a pillar and heal yourself with
Vivify until your healer is able to save you. You port back to your previous location, thanks to the talent
Escape from Reality.
Touch of Karma is our primary defensive cooldown. Use this when the enemy team is focusing you down, and your healer cannot heal you through it or is stuck in crowd control. It absorbs 50% of your Health pool and redirects 70% of the amount to the enemy target as nature damage.
Fortifying Brew is a powerful defensive cooldown. This not only decreases the amount of damage you take, but it increases your Health. This affects how much Health you get back when using a
Healthstone.
Finally, use Monk mobility as a defensive technique.
Flying Serpent Kick can be useful if you have taken the
Ride the Wind PvP talent. Even without the PvP talent, this helps with getting out of line of sight from enemies.
Tiger's Lust removes snares from you. This will help you get away from enemies if you are slowed or rooted.
Roll if your final mobility spell. This can be great for getting out of line of sight when your healer is in crowd control. When you get to a safe area, use
Ring of Peace to continue kiting and
Vivify to heal yourself.

The Role of Windwalker Monks in Battlegrounds
Capture the Flag (Warsong Gulch, Twin Peaks)
On both Warsong Gulch and Twin Peaks, if you are defending your own flag
carrier, you should encourage them to take high ground on the upstairs ledges
so you can protect them with Ring of Peace.
Similarly, when attacking enemy bases, you should look to knock players off the high ground. You can do that either to make sure that your teammates can attack the enemy flag carrier or to separate the flag carrier from their healers.
When nobody is available to take the enemy flag, and it is nearby, you
should take advantage of your mobility and defensive cooldowns to bring the
enemy flag back to your team as soon as you can and, if possible, pass it to a
more durable specialization when it is safe to do so. Use spells like Roll and
Flying Serpent Kick to get to someone quickly.
Resource Race (Arathi Basin, Battle for Gilneas, Deepwind Gorge)
Before a Resource Race battleground starts, you should decide with your team which base you should focus on first.
- If there is an enemy healer at the base you are assigned to, then you should crowd control them as soon as possible and use your burst cooldowns to kill their teammates
- If there is no healer but there is more than one DPS enemy, you should use your crowd control on the one who your team is less likely to attack (as they would break your crowd control)
Because Windwalkers do not have the same crowd control toolkit as other DPS, your primary goal will be to team fight at a node and pull in as many enemies as possible while your team tries to get other nodes. Ideally, you will have a healer and 1 more DPS with you. From here, it will be a 2v2 or 3v3 against the other team. Do not forget that Celestial Conduit will spin flags and with
Absolute Serenity, you are immune to crowd control while channeling it.
Hybrid (Eye of the Storm)
Similar to resource race maps, your goal is to keep your team alive in the big team fights. The goal on this map is to have one person cap your node and the rest of the team will teamfight middle for the flag. The idea is to wipe the enemy team and control the middle flag at your primary node. Because the nodes will swap when the flag is capped, you want to hold onto it as long as possible to gain stacks. These stacks will reduce movement speed and healing received. At high enough stacks, the enemy team will not be able to survive with it, even if they kill your flag carrier. Do not cap the flag until 1325 resources. Trade your defensives when you get low ( Touch of Karma,
Fortifying Brew, etc.) and get value out of
Leg Sweep by stunning multiple enemies.
Note: Capping the flag will make the inactive bases active and both teams will have to recap the nodes. Use this tactic if your team is falling behind on points or lost the team fight.
King of the Hill (Temple of Kotmogu)
Ranged DPS specializations will always be the best orb carriers on Temple of Kotmogu, so do not grab the flag unless it is a dire situation and you have to. The most important part about this map is to win the initial team fight and quickly gain momentum by grabbing 3 orbs and standing in the middle of the map. When the enemy team starts to resurrect, leave middle and kite around the center. Here are some tips for this map:
- Players take more damage the longer they hold the orb. This means that, eventually, the Orb carriers will die. Ideally, your team will only hold 2-3 orbs at a time, so that you do not easily wipe when you have high stacks.
- Make sure you die on the correct side of the map! You and your team will resurrect depending on where you died. If you die on purple side, you will resurrect on blue side and vise versa. Ensuring you and your team resurrect together is crucial, this will allow you to regroup faster and quickly wipe the enemy team that will be weak.
- There are leaves at every orb; if you are low on Mana, make sure you grab one!
