About Our Author

This guide has been reviewed and approved by Torty, one of the main Restoration Druid theorycrafters. He is an author of the Twig It spreadsheet and DPS action priority list. He currently raids in Pure.

1. Foreword

This page is an introduction to Restoration Druid in Battle for Azeroth. It will cover major changes to abilities, mechanics, talents, and spell priority. Bear in mind that more changes are likely before release, so this guide is subject to change.

In Battle for Azeroth, Restoration Druid remains mostly unchanged from its Legion iteration. The playstyle is close to the way spec is played in Legion.

2. Basic Mechanics Changes for Restoration Druid in BfA

3. Baseline Abilities & Changes for Restoration Druid in BfA

  • Swiftmend Icon Swiftmend cooldown has been reduced to 25 seconds, down from 30.
  • Regrowth Icon Regrowth base Critical Strike chance has been removed. The healing over time effect has been slightly buffed.
  • Rebirth Icon Rebirth cast time has been increased to 2 seconds from instant.
  • Bear Form Icon Bear Form Stamina increase has been reduced to +25%, down from +55%.
  • Tranquility Icon Tranquility now leaves a healing over time effect on all targets healed. It stacks 5 times.
  • Ironbark Icon Ironbark cooldown has been reduced to 1 minute, down from 90 seconds.
  • Frenzied Regeneration Icon Frenzied Regeneration no longer heals based on incoming damage. Instead, it now heals for 25% of maximum Health over 5 seconds. The cooldown has been increased to 36 seconds. Charges have been reduced to 1, down from 2.
  • Shred Icon Shred and Mangle Icon Mangle are now baseline and do not require Feral Affinity Icon Feral Affinity or Guardian Affinity Icon Guardian Affinity.

4. The BfA Restoration Druid Talent Tree

BFA Restoration Talent Tree

Restoration has a lot of talents that swapped tiers, new talents and some talents that received changes.

4.1. Level 15

  • Abundance Icon Abundance now reduces Mana cost and increases Critical Strike chance of Regrowth Icon Regrowth by 6% per stack. This turns Regrowth into an efficient single target heal. You will no longer go over 100% Critical Strike chance after casting a few Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenations.

4.2. Level 30

  • Displacer Beast Icon Displacer Beast has been removed and replaced with Tiger Dash Icon Tiger Dash. Tiger Dash replaces Dash Icon Dash with a short sprint that increases your movement speed by 200%, reducing gradually over 4 seconds.
  • Wild Charge Icon Wild Charge now incurs 0.5-second global cooldown and you can not use it during a global cooldown from another ability.

4.3. Level 45

4.4. Level 60

  • The talents in this row have not changed.

4.5. Level 75

  • The talents in this row have not changed.

4.6. Level 90

4.7. Level 100

  • Photosynthesis Icon Photosynthesis has replaced Moment of Clarity Icon Moment of Clarity. It makes all your Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenations heal 30% more — by giving them 30% Haste — while Lifebloom Icon Lifebloom is on yourself. Alternatively, while Lifebloom is on another ally, each of your periodic heals on them has a 4% chance to cause a bloom. This effect is very similar to The Dark Titan's Advice Icon The Dark Titan's Advice.
  • Germination Icon Germination has replaced Stonebark Icon Stonebark.
  • Flourish Icon Flourish cooldown has been increased to 90 seconds, from 1 minute. The HoT extension has increased from 6 seconds to 8. It now also makes your healing over time effects tick twice as fast.

5. Azerite Traits for Restoration Druid

Legion Artifact traits have been replaced in Battle for Azeroth by the Azerite system. These bonuses can be unlocked on certain armor slots, and grant a mix of utility, defensive, and damaging effects. Typically, you will have a choice of two traits, one specific to Restoration, and a generic one available to all specs and classes. The full list of traits has yet to be revealed and some of the revealed ones lack any numbers to assess their strength or impact on the gameplay.

6. Restoration Druid Playstyle in BfA

6.1. Raid Healing

The increased power of Flourish Icon Flourish, reduced duration of Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenation, and reduced power of Wild Growth Icon Wild Growth make the playstyle more focused on cycles of low throughput maintenance going into heavy Rejuvenation spam, followed by Wild Growth and Flourish. Since Mana does not allow for constant Rejuvenation casts, you will be forced to either cast Solar Wrath Icon Solar Wrath or go into melee and Shred Icon Shred in Cat Form Icon Cat Form.

  1. Keep Efflorescence Icon Efflorescence under a group of players, usually melee.
  2. Keep Lifebloom Icon Lifebloom on an active tank. The removal of artifacts makes switching Lifebloom less punishing. Tanks are taking a lot more damage, so high uptime is essential to their survival.
  3. Use Innervate Icon Innervate during low to moderate damage moments and try to fit both Efflorescence Icon Efflorescence and Wild Growth Icon Wild Growth in the duration. With the addition of the global cooldown, it is more efficient to use Innervate on another healer. Make sure they are expecting the buff or ask for it, otherwise use it on yourself.
  4. Use Clearcasting Icon Clearcasting procs as soon as possible. The removal of Living Seed Icon Living Seed makes casting Regrowth Icon Regrowth on targets other than tanks not punishing at all.
  5. Use Cenarion Ward Icon Cenarion Ward on cooldown, if you are using the talent.
  6. Keep Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenation on an active tank and any players with debuffs. Avoid casting too many Rejuvenations to keep your Mana for Flourish Icon Flourish windows.
  7. Start casting Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenations about 10 seconds before you plan on using Flourish Icon Flourish. Follow it with Wild Growth Icon Wild Growth as soon as the damage event hits, then use Flourish.
  8. Use Swiftmend Icon Swiftmend and Regrowth Icon Regrowth as emergency heals.
  9. During downtime, use Moonfire Icon Moonfire and Sunfire Icon Sunfire on enemies to help with the damage. Be careful with casting both, since they cost a lot of Mana.
  10. If you are able to stand in melee, you should be using your free time to DPS in Cat Form Icon Cat Form, even without Feral Affinity Icon Feral Affinity. Otherwise, you should be filling your free global cooldowns with Solar Wrath Icon Solar Wrath.

6.2. Dungeon Healing

The dungeon toolkit took the biggest amount of overall changes. Less Health in Bear Form Icon Bear Form makes Guardian Affinity Icon Guardian Affinity a more desirable choice. The loss of either Flourish Icon Flourish and Icon Essence of G'Hanir (the old artifact trait now being essentially merged into the Flourish talent) or Germination Icon Germination removes a significant portion of your power. The removal of Living Seed Icon Living Seed and the change to Abundance Icon Abundance makes Regrowth Icon Regrowth much weaker in terms of power, but more Mana efficient.

There is no particular priority to Dungeon healing. You are looking to keep Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenations on players that take damage and either fill with Regrowth Icon Regrowth in case they need more healing or do damage. Since Mana is usually of very little concern, you should cast as much as possible.
