Which Artifact Path to Pick as Unholy Death Knight?

Legion remix allows you to pick up an Artifact Weapon just like the old days. However, this time around all spec share the same artifact talent tree (used to be specific for each spec) which you put points in using the Infinite Power Icon Infinite Power currency (used to be adding points as you leveled up). There are five different paths that you can take within the tree, each corresponding to a distinct active ability.

Choosing what active ability and consequently which talent path to use comes down both optimal throughput as well as personal preference. Given the limited time of the event and the nature of the content, picking the "coolest" talents is completely valid

For Solo Players: Arcane or Nature trees provide a good amount of defensives and healing, making it easier for you as a solo player to survive in all content. If you are all about the big pull and AoE-down playstyle, Storm or Fel will likely provide you with more DPS, just make sure you are ready with your defensive abilities, or team up with someone else that can aid you in surviving.

For Duo-ing: When you play with someone else, they can often help you surviving by providing healing or tanking some of the damage. We therefore recommend either Fel or Storm.

For Group Play: For 5-man dungeons, Storm is likely the best option due to its solid AoE potential with Tempest Wrath Icon Tempest Wrath being a nice AoE ability on its own!

Here's a quick overview of each of the trees:

  • Nature: This tree offers strong damage procs, while the active ability Call of the Forest Icon Call of the Forest shields you as well as dealing moderate AoE damage to targets in front of you. The passives in the tree provide good damage and survivability, and are particularly powerful when teaming up with other players.
  • Fel: This is a purely damage-focused tree, allowing you to summon a Dreadlord with Twisted Crusade Icon Twisted Crusade that will summon a Rain of Fire to deal damage in an area. With the capstone you can re-use this ability to sacrifice the Dreadlord and deal a massive amount of AoE burst around its location.
  • Arcane: This tree mixes survivability and DPS, but only if you can stand still in combat (something we melee do not tend to do...). It's active ability, Naran's Everdisc Icon Naran's Everdisc, deals massive AoE damage to targets in front of you, and you can benefit from this up to 3 times if you catch the orb as it returns to you.
  • Storm: A powerful choice for casters due to enabling casting while moving through its talents. Still useful for us Death Knights as the active ability deals a ton of AoE damage around us, great for those big AoE pulls.
  • Holy: A more healing-oriented tree that is still useful for us, especially when playing solo. We are already great self-healers but this will help improve our self-sustain even further!
