Il'gynoth Tactics and Strategy guide
Welcome to our strategy and tactics guide for Il'gynoth in Ny'alotha. Here, we tell you all you need to know to defeat this boss. We also include a role by role breakdown of the strategy, so that you can quickly see what you need to do depending on your role: DPS, tanks, or healers.
Read Before
Before you start reading the strategy, we advise you to look at the abilities of Il'gynoth, in our encounter journal pages.
Fight Overview
- The boss is split into 2 main phases which it will alternate between throughout the course of the fight.
- Phase 1 will require raids to make the most of the space available in the room, ensuring that they do not cover too much of the area with Morass of Corruption.
- After bringing the boss to 1 HP, Phase 2 will begin, in which players will have to kill the organs of Il'gynoth before they are overwhelmed with adds.
- The fight will continue swapping between these 2 phases, with only 1 organ dying in each Phase 2, until Il'gynoth can be killed without an organ remaining.
Fight Summary / TL;DR
Tanks
- During the Phase 1 sections, make sure that you face Eye of N'Zoth away from the rest of the raid.
- Taunt swap on 2 stacks of the debuff from Eye of N'Zoth, which lasts 45 seconds.
- The adds that spawn after killing organs in each Phase 2, Blood of Ny'alotha cannot be tanked.
- During Phase 2, help to kill the selected organ and manage the interrupts on the remaining organs that are not being killed.
- (Mythic) At the start of each Phase 2, pick up the Clotted Corruption and tank it so that it absorbs the Bloods with Absorbing Charge until it is killed.
Healers
- Be aware of the damage coming out from the second hit of Eye of N'Zoth on the tanks.
- If you are targeted by Corruptor's Gaze, make sure to kite the beam through an area that does not have many players, or will not be used in the future.
- If required, help to interrupt the Pumping Blood casts of the organs.
- Dispel the Recurring Nightmare DoT from any players that are hit by the melee of the adds.
DPS
- If you are targeted by Corruptor's Gaze, make sure to kite the beam through an area that does not have many players, or will not be used in the future.
- Make sure to interrupt Pumping Blood while fighting the organs.
- Kill the adds as soon as possible, unless your raid leader tells you they will be absorbed by the Clotted Corruption (Mythic).
Everyone
- Kite the Blood of Ny'alotha and do not get hit by their melee attacks.
- Focus a single organ in each Phase 2, as the others will heal.
Phase 1
The first phase sees the raid fight against Il'gynoth itself, who must be brought down to 1 HP to transition into Phase 2.

Notes
Corruptor's Gaze is the main ability in this phase that affects the majority of the raid and, depending on how you decide to deal with it, it can cause serious issues.
It must be kited out and away from the raid to prevent it filling the areas of the room that you still need. Ideally, you would always take it towards an area of the room that the organ is already cleared in.
Strategy
The strategy for Phase 1 and the boss in general is actually very simple. You will need your raid to spread out and have the boss be tanked facing away from the raid.
Players targeted by Corruptor's Gaze will need to move away from the raid and make sure to not drag it through the raid, or directly across where players will need to be later.
Once the first organ has died and you transition back into Phase 1, your raid will need to kite and avoid the spawned adds, to prevent them from meleeing and applying their DoT.
Phase 2
Once Il'gynoth reaches 1 HP, your raid will be able to kill the Organs of Corruption spread around the room.

Notes
The organs will heal after one of them dies, so make sure that your raid is not wasting damage on multi-dotting. Instead, focus one down.
Strategy
Split your raid up into groups, with the main group being on the organ you want to down. The other 2 groups should be assigned to an Organ, to rotate their interrupts and ensure they stop as many Pumping Blood casts as possible.
If possible, try to assign tanks and healers to the other Organs, as they do not need to be tanked. They only need to be interrupted and killed, so wasting a main DPS player on an organ that is not being killed will hinder your speed in killing the main one.
If you miss any interrupts, the person that add that spawns will target needs to run away and kite it. This add should be killed as soon as possible, but beware of the HP of your raid. When the adds die, they will cause a Hemorrhage cast, which deals damage to all players. If you kill too many at once, you will wipe.
The only other notable mechanic in this phase that needs to be dealt with is the debuff, Cursed Blood.
Simply spread out and wait for the debuff to run out.
Additional Phase 1 Changes
After you kill the first organ, you will go back to Phase 1, but with an additional thing to manage. The destroyed organ will periodically summon adds, the same ones that are summoned in Phase 2, which will need to be kited and killed.
Be careful when kiting that you do not get caught in an area that is filled with the Corruptor's Gaze residue.
