Frost Death Knight DPS Ny'alotha Raid Guide — Shadowlands Pre-Patch 9.0.1
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Frost Death Knight for each boss of the following raid: Ny'alotha. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Shadowlands Pre-Patch 9.0.1.
Introduction
In this section, you will find information and guidance for Frost Death Knights on each boss individually in the Ny'alotha. These are not complete encounter guides, but rather provide specific tips for doing the bosses as a Frost Death Knight.
The page will be filled out based on live server experience with the bosses, after the raid releases on the 21st January.
Essences
Major Essence
Worldvein Resonance — Since this essence is on a 1-minute cooldown, it lines up
very nicely with your
Breath of Sindragosa. This seems to be a very popular
major essence choice in Ny'alotha, so the minor power you gain will also be very
strong.
Blood of the Enemy — This essence does very well with both
Breath of Sindragosa
and
Icecap when you have Rank 3 available for the Critical Damage bonus. The Minor you gain
is also incredibly powerful.
Minor Essences
Memory of Lucid Dreams — This is always a powerful choice for Frost Death
Knights when using
Breath of Sindragosa seeing as the minor grants you a large
amount of Runes. This will lead to a longer Breath of Sindragosa uptime and less downtime
outside of Breath of Sindragosa.
Essence of the Focusing Iris — Is used in the
Icecap build over
Conflict and Strife
because of the bonus Haste it gains from
Expedient.
Breath of the Dying — This is a new essence in Patch 8.3. The minor procs
Fire damage on the target that also act as an execute effect.
Conflict and Strife — This simply gives you a significant amount of Versatility
making it not only a DPS increase but a survivability increase because of how Versatility
affects your character.

Tips
Make sure to stand to the side of Wrathion to avoid Tail Swipe
and
Searing Breath.
Remorseless Winter, combined with
Frozen Tempest, can give you free
Rime procs on the
Crackling Shards in Phase 2.
Incineration also deals magic damage
meaning you can use
Anti-Magic Shell to absorb some of the damage.
The Ashwalker Assassins are grippable with
Death Grip. If you are
using
Frostwyrm's Fury then save it for the intermission phase and
line yourself up with as many pillars as possible before casting it.
For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.
Maut
We advise you to use the following talents against Maut.

Cold Heart
- Level 25:
Runic Attenuation (situational options:

- Level 30: No specific recommendation

- Level 40: No specific recommendation
- Level 45:
Gathering Storm or
Glacial Advance
- Level 50:

Tips
Depending on your group's strategy, you may want to save your major cooldown
combination ( Breath of Sindragosa,
Empower Rune Weapon, and
Pillar of Frost) for the
Obsidian Shatter. Coordinate this with
your group because you may save Bloodlust/Heroism for this push. You can choose
to run AoE talents, such as
Avalanche and
Frostscythe, to help
kill the pillars in Phase 2, if they are a major issue.
If you are targeted with Devour Magic you can use Anti-Magic Shell before it goes off to prevent the silence and absorb some of the damage, this will allow you to continue casting and can at times save your Breath of Sindragosa from falling off.
For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.
The Prophet Skitra
We advise you to use the following talents against The Prophet Skitra.

phase to generate Runic Power while your group is finding out where
Skitra is.
For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.

Using Conflict and Strife Major for
Chill Streak on this boss
is incredible effective to cleave down the adds on Mythic with the boss. This
requires your tank to stack Xanesh on the adds however.
Use Death's Advance or
Wraith Walk to quickly move
out of
Torment zones if you are struggling to move out quickly
enough. Try to save
Death's Advance and
Wraith Walk for
the
Void Orb mechanic, as these movement speed abilities can save
you in a pinch.
For more information, please refer to our Dark Inquisitor Xanesh guide.
