General Information

On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Enhancement Shaman for each boss of the following raid: Ny'alotha. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Battle for Azeroth (BfA) 8.3.

1.

Enhancement Shaman in Ny'alotha

Enhancement Shaman suffers from being a melee spec, which is often in high demand. Despite this, a lot of encounters in Ny'alotha do provide opportunities to deal extra damage via Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning and funnel into a single-target. The specialization's damage, while reliant on good gear, is very high in most of the more performance intensive fights. The main downfall is survival, but this can be overcome in some cases with good play.

In this section, you will find information and guidance for Enhancement Shamans on each boss individually in Ny'alotha. These are not complete encounter guides, but rather provide specific tips for doing the bosses as a Enhancement Shaman.

1.1.

Notes

There are some small universal rules that are useful to bear in mind when looking at the below sections. These will not be elaborated on for each individual boss, but are important notes to bear in mind.

  • Any time that Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air is suggested as a talent option, this means it should always be paired with Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams as a Minor Essence. This is largely due to the innate synergy, and the additional healing/survival it provides.
  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem may not always be recommended, but on the majority of fights there is room to find value from it. All of the boss arenas are large, and movement is often very high. If your raid is in need of this utility switching to it is a good idea.
  • Worldvein Resonance Icon Worldvein Resonance is recommended often. If you find your strategy prevents you from making use of it due to high movement or kill timers, consider switching to an alternative Major option such as Guardian of Azeroth Icon Guardian of Azeroth or Blood of the Enemy Icon Blood of the Enemy.
  • Due to this being the final tier, Hailstorm Icon Hailstorm will always be recommended under the assumption you are using Natural Harmony Icon Natural Harmony somewhere on your Azerite.
  • Lethal Strikes Icon Lethal Strikes is recommended assuming you either have Rank 3, or need the Corruption resistance. If you have access to Symbiotic Presence Icon Symbiotic Presence but not Breath 3, this can be substituted in cleave encounters for similar gains.

Wrathion, the Black Emperor

We advise you to use the following talents against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.

We advise you to use the following essences against Wrathion, the Black Emperor.

3.1.

Tips

Wrathion is a fight divided into a very static Phase 1, a very high movement intermission and an AoE heavy Phase 2 that cycles in this order. Enhancement suffers from downtime here, so some selections are made to make the most out of the time you can actually hit the boss.

  • Using Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk to get out of range quickly with Incineration Icon Incineration is fine, as you should be able to deal with Burning Cataclysm Icon Burning Cataclysm with Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf.
  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is excellent here if you do not need the survival provided by Nature's Guardian Icon Nature's Guardian. Use it to assist your raid during the Burning Cataclysm Intermission.
  • Deciding between Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air and Sundering Icon Sundering is personal. The former will provide more sustain and survival throughout the fight, while the latter will be useful in Phase 2 dealing with Crackling Shard Icon Crackling Shards and Ashwalker Assassins. If you select Fury of Air, use Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams.
  • Guardian of Azeroth Icon Guardian of Azeroth and Ascendance Icon Ascendance work very well here due to the fight timings — you should get one use at the start of each Phase 1 without any significant downtime. Other Essences and options however can be impacted by intermissions.
3.1.1.

Mythic Tips

  • You should be using Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk conservatively here to remove the stacking Slow debuff from Creeping Madness Icon Creeping Madness when cast. If you are caught out with this on cooldown, you can still use the slow suppression from Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf to move freely.
  • Enhancement is useful as a carrier for Scales of Wrathion Icon Scales of Wrathion due to the passive movement speed to run it over shards. When doing this survival is an issue when doing this so be careful if doing it as you will need externals.

For more information, please refer to our Wrathion, the Black Emperor guide.

4.

Maut

We advise you to use the following talents against Maut.

We advise you to use the following essences against Maut.

4.1.

Tips

Maut is largely a single-target encounter for Melee players, so your build will be focused on dealing as much of that as possible. Survival is also important here due to the self-inflicted damage in Phase 2, making Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air + Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams a desirable choice.

  • Nature's Guardian Icon Nature's Guardian is ideal here just as a safety net for the Phase 2 Obsidian Skin Icon Obsidian Skin effect in case you reflect too much damage at once, as movement is not as intense here for Melee.
  • Make use of Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift if you use cooldowns during Phase 2, which when using Worldvein Resonance Icon Worldvein Resonance will happen roughly half way through the phase.
  • In some cases you can get the Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning buff up during Phase 2 if you are quick as the add is moved to the boss. Outside of this do not try to chase getting this up.
  • Save Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk to get out safely if you are targeted by Devour Magic Icon Devour Magic and it overlaps with a Black Wings Icon Black Wings cast.
4.1.1.

Mythic Tips

  • You can make use of Cleanse Spirit Icon Cleanse Spirit to remove your Ancient Curse Icon Ancient Curse instead of stepping into the Devoured Abyss Icon Devoured Abyss zones. You can also use this to save players who are caught out and prevent them from dying if it is about to expire.

For more information, please refer to our Maut guide.

5.

The Prophet Skitra

We advise you to use the following talents against The Prophet Skitra.

We advise you to use the following essences against The Prophet Skitra.

5.1.

Tips

Skitra has a massive arena that can force you to move large distances in intermissions, but is otherwise a simple static encounter. Choices on Essences are mostly dictated by your push timings for the intermission each 20% of the bosses Health.

  • You are able to activate Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning at all times during the intermission if you are hitting the correct illusion. This is due to both targets being stacked on the same spot, despite being unable to see both of them.
  • Use Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift if you are caught in a bad position for Shred Psyche Icon Shred Psyche's detonation.
  • Save Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk for the intermission, and shift into Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf if the target illusion is far away.
  • If your raid is having issues reaching the illusions far away, take Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem and use it in the intermission to help get the phase over with faster.
  • You can use Earthgrab Totem Icon Earthgrab Totem to slow the Images of Absolution Icon Images of Absolution and give time for other raid members to use hard CC on them.
5.1.1.

Mythic Tips

  • You should instead save Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift for the intermissions here, especially the later ones. The damage ramp up from Dark Ritual Icon Dark Ritual can make the final phases very damage intensive.

For more information, please refer to our The Prophet Skitra guide.

6.

Dark Inquisitor Xanesh

We advise you to use the following talents against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.

We advise you to use the following essences against Dark Inquisitor Xanesh.

6.1.

Tips

Xanesh has some very high movement requirements at specific points throughout the encounter, so you need to ration out your tools to keep up with the boss. Otherwise, it is largely a single target fight.

  • Taking Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is very helpful for your raid here, allowing you to speed them up for repositioning following Soul Flay Icon Soul Flay, especially when this overlaps with Torment Icon Torment.
  • If you are assigned to dealing with Void Ritual Icon Void Ritual, make sure to stay in Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf to complete the phase faster, as you deal no damage with the debuff anyway.
  • Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air is chosen here if you feel the need for more self healing with Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams to deal with some of the damage bursts. This is especially useful on Mythic with higher damage, so is worth considering.
6.1.1.

Mythic Tips

  • Make sure to activate Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning and burn down the Awakened Terror adds spawned during the Void Ritual phase.
  • You can interrupt the Terror Wave Icon Terror Wave with Wind Shear Icon Wind Shear aggressively, and if any casts cannot be covered you can use Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem as a backup to prevent the Fear.
  • Sundering Icon Sundering is more valuable than in other difficulties here to line up with hitting both the add spawns and the boss.

For more information, please refer to our Dark Inquisitor Xanesh guide.

7.

The Hivemind

We advise you to use the following talents against The Hivemind.

We advise you to use the following essences against The Hivemind.

7.1.

Tips

Hivemind is a boss that has very good cooldown timings allowing Enhancement to show off some strong burst AoE while still funneling it into the boss.

  • You should ideally be holding Feral Spirit Icon Feral Spirit, Blood of the Enemy Icon Blood of the Enemy, and Sundering Icon Sundering until the first add wave spawn for a large burst of AoE. These will roughly sync up with each spawn if you hold for the first 30 seconds.
  • If Aqir Darters reach melee, you can use Capacitor Totem Icon Capacitor Totem to lock them down and cleave them down.
  • Make use of the Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning funneling effect to burst down the Aqir Ravager to relieve some pressure.
  • Regardless of the boss you are targeting, make sure to keep an eye on Ka'zir and keep Mind-Numbing Nova Icon Mind-Numbing Nova interrupted with Wind Shear Icon Wind Shear.

For more information, please refer to our The Hivemind guide.

8.

Shad'har the Insatiable

We advise you to use the following talents against Shad'har the Insatiable.

We advise you to use the following essences against Shad'har the Insatiable.

8.1.

Tips

Shad'har is entirely a single-target burn fight that has a predictable kill timer, so selecting Talents and Essences that fit best into that timeframe will net the highest damage. Other than this optimization, it mostly comes down to avoiding obvious telegraphs.

8.1.1.

Mythic Tips

  • You can use the root removal from Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk or the slow suppression from Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf to deal with the root triggered by the fixate from Living Miasma Icon Living Miasma if it targets you.

For more information, please refer to our Shad'har the Insatiable guide.

9.

Drest'agath

We advise you to use the following talents against Drest'agath.

We advise you to use the following essences against Drest'agath.

9.1.

Tips

Drest'agath comes with a lot of downtime and very high movement checks due to the frequent target swaps. It also requires you to condense your damage into short bursts to line up with the Void Infused Ichor Icon Void Infused Ichor effect, meaning that some unusual choices can be combined to bring your performance up significantly.

  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem and Feral Lunge Icon Feral Lunge are both options here due to the high movement. The former provides better support for other melee players to get to the boss after collecting Void Infused Ichor Icon Void Infused Ichor, while the latter is more aggressive uptime for you. Pick based on your group.
  • Sundering Icon Sundering value is fairly low here due to the spread of targets, so Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air plus Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams provides a bit more safety when damage ramps up in the encounter.
  • Elemental Spirits Icon Elemental Spirits and Ascendance Icon Ascendance are roughly even depending on how well balanced your Ichor pickups are. Ideally you should be saving these cooldowns for the boss when you have an Ichor debuff active, so balancing these timings is important so you do not sit on them too long.
  • Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk should be used liberally due to the frequent target swaps, and failing that being available use Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf to minimize downtime.
  • On very rare occasions an Eye of Drest'agath may spawn within Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning range of the boss. If this happens, make sure to get the buff active if possible.

For more information, please refer to our Drest'agath guide.

10.

Vexiona

We advise you to use the following talents against Vexiona.

We advise you to use the following essences against Vexiona.

10.1.

Tips

Vexiona requires you to temper your damage profiles between boss damage, priority targets, and AoE. Enhancement has options that allow you to pick and choose based on what your guild needs, but the focus here is picking what provides the most versatile options.

  • Your level 100 talents should be decided based on whether you need more add damage or more boss damage. Elemental Spirits Icon Elemental Spirits can be used in tandem with Blood of the Enemy Icon Blood of the Enemy for consistent burst with Sundering Icon Sundering, while Ascendance Icon Ascendance is used for a less frequent gain but a larger impact in Phase 2.
  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is very useful here to assist your raid during the intermission and the final phase, getting them out of the deep breath zones.
  • Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem can be used in the final phase during Heart of Darkness Icon Heart of Darkness as a backup if they are caught out alone.

For more information, please refer to our Vexiona guide.

11.

Ra-den the Despoiled

We advise you to use the following talents against Ra-den the Despoiled.

We advise you to use the following essences against Ra-den the Despoiled.

11.1.

Tips

Ra-den has a large amount of focus on two targets which suits Enhancement's damage profile perfectly. Alongside this it also has cooldown oriented burn windows, so planning your uses around this is important. Lastly, damage is very high here so paying attention to the intake is crucial to surviving through each phase.

  • Aggressively keep Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning as much as possible when adds are active. Focus your attacks on the boss when the Crackling Stalker is active, but instead focus on the Void Hunter when that is.
  • Nature's Guardian Icon Nature's Guardian is too valuable due to the high spikes of damage to forego, as mobility is not too much of a limitation here if played properly.
  • Use Astral Shift Icon Astral Shift if soaking Void Collapse Icon Void Collapse, especially if you are going to take 2 stacks to reduce the damage you take before Void Defilement Icon Void Defilement is applied making you immune to healing.
  • Spirit Walk Icon Spirit Walk should be saved in Phase 2 in the event you are targeted by Charged Bonds Icon Charged Bonds to get out quickly away from your partner to clear the debuff.

For more information, please refer to our Ra-den the Despoiled guide.

12.

Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn

We advise you to use the following talents against Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn.

We advise you to use the following essences against Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn.

12.1.

Tips

Il'gynoth is the most complex end wing boss when it comes to how you approach your damage profile. There is a lot you can do to tweak your delivery, and sometimes it comes down to the pace your group is dealing with each phase as to what works best. Making sure you can deliver the most damage without hurting the uptime of your cooldowns however is most important of all.

  • Finding Sundering Icon Sundering value can often be hard here, so the extra healing provided by the Fury of Air Icon Fury of Air plus Lucid Dreams Icon Lucid Dreams combo is often more preferred.
  • Using Capacitor Totem Icon Capacitor Totem to stop Fixates applied by Blood of Ny'alotha is useful, but you can also use this to lock down players charmed by Touch of the Corruptor Icon Touch of the Corruptor to prevent it spreading.
  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is very useful here due to the huge boss arena, allowing you to reposition your raid around each Organ of Corruption phase.

For more information, please refer to our Il'gynoth, Corruption Reborn guide.

13.

Carapace of N'Zoth

We advise you to use the following talents against Carapace of N'Zoth.

We advise you to use the following essences against Carapace of N'Zoth.

13.1.

Tips

Carapace of N'Zoth has a lot of room to focus on either add damage or boss damage depending on the phase you are struggling with. Ideally however, picking choices that allow you to deal the most versatile profile between each phase due to their differences will make you the most useful. The high movement requirement also means taking talents that help with this both for you and the raid, alongside planning your movement has a big impact on your performance.

  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem is invaluable throughout the encounter finding uses in every phase.
    • Phase 1 — Useful for adjusting your raid to either side of the Growth-Covered Tentacle Icon Growth-Covered Tentacle to kill growths faster.
    • Phase 2 — Transitioning quickly from Wrathion to the sides to get to Synthesis Growth quicker, or to spread out faster to avoid Occipital Blast Icon Occipital Blast after completing the two sides.
    • Phase 3 — Quick repositioning following Infinite Darkness Icon Infinite Darkness casts.
  • Elemental Spirits Icon Elemental Spirits in tandem with Blood of the Enemy Icon Blood of the Enemy and Sundering Icon Sundering provides the biggest burst AoE for the frequent add waves, though cooldown timings are not naturally synced. You should hold your first use until he first tentacle slam.
  • Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem is useful to break out Madness Bomb Icon Madness Bomb in phase 1/2, and Insanity Bomb Icon Insanity Bomb in phase 3 to prevent downtime for the raid.
  • Ghost Wolf Icon Ghost Wolf can be used to suppress the slow zone surrounding Mycelial Cysts, letting you reach the Synthesis Growths more freely.

For more information, please refer to our Carapace of N'Zoth guide.

14.

N'Zoth the Corruptor

We advise you to use the following talents against N'Zoth the Corruptor.

We advise you to use the following essences against N'Zoth the Corruptor.

14.1.

Tips

Depending on when you are entering into the Mindgate, you will need to be planning your cooldowns (and your build) around this. Making sure that you can slot in your big damage around this while still contributing to Psychus damage in particular is vital for getting the most out of Enhancement. Otherwise, survival and movement are both heavy checks at certain points in the encounter. Often you will be using things as they come up to make it through each phase.

  • Wind Rush Totem Icon Wind Rush Totem provides incredible utility here due to the sheer size of the boss arena. This can be used liberally, especially in Phase 2 when moving between each clump of tentacle spawns.
  • Enhancement is perfect for dealing with the Psychus phases within the mindgate, allowing you do cleave off the boss and still deal respectable damage to Synapses with Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning.
  • Ascendance lines up naturally with each 3 minute cycle if held for the final burn after 30-40 seconds in phase one on Psychus, allowing you to deal good add and boss damage.
  • Tremor Totem Icon Tremor Totem can be used pre-emptively in the final phase to cover any player caught by Stupefying Glare Icon Stupefying Glare.
  • Phase 3 damage allows you to cleave off Thought Harvesters with Crash Lightning Icon Crash Lightning throughout. Make sure to swap focus to the add if necessary.

For more information, please refer to our N'Zoth the Corruptor guide.
