Dragonriding Races in World of Warcraft: Dragonflight (10.0.2)
Dragon Racing is an optional part of Dragonriding in Dragonflight that gives you the opportunity to put your riding skills to the test in over 50 different courses across the Dragon Isles. Here, you will learn more about racing and the cosmetic rewards available for those with a need for Dragonriding speed!
Dragon Racing
Welcome to Dragon Racing! These races will test your mastery over your newly obtained Dragonriding skills. Races can be found in every zone and completing them will award you either a Bronze, Silver, or Gold
Before You Start Dragon Racing
Before you begin Dragon Racing, we would recommend that you obtain all of the Glyphs to fully upgrade your talent tree. This will make the races much easier, and are required in order to complete any advanced race.
We have a dedicated guides for Glyphs and Talents which can be found below.
We would also recommend that you turn off enemy nameplates (Default Keybind: V) during the races as you will sometimes fly through areas with a lot of hostile targets and having your screen filled with nameplates will make the races unnecessarily harder.
Finally we need to talk about Thrill of the Skies. This is how most of
your
Vigor is generated during Dragon Racing. Maintaining
the buff is essential for completing races as fast as possible.
Thrill of the Skies is triggered by moving at a high speed on your Drake.
- Flying upwards will cause you to lose speed and lose the buff. This can be negated
by using
Surge Forward or
Skyward Ascent.
How to Unlock Dragon Racing
Normal races are unlocked by default and every zone will have a quest to complete every race. These quests are retroactive, so if you have completed the races when you pick up the quest they will be marked as completed in the quests when you pick them up.
You start these quests in the waking shores with The Waking Shores Tour and after completing this quest you will be taken to the next zone.
- The Waking Shores Tour
- The Ohn'ahran Plains Tour
- The Azure Span Tour
- The Thaldraszus Tour
After completing all four zone quests you will unlock advanced races and a new set of quests for advanced races.
- The Waking Shores Advanced Tour
- The Ohn'ahran Plains Advanced Tour
- The Azure Span Advanced Tour
- The Thaldraszus Advanced Tour
How to Find and Start Dragon Races
Every Dragon Race has a Bronze Timekeeper at the location. Talk to them to start the race.
To find other races in the zone you can speak to the Bronze Timekeeper Assistant who will mark your map for the race you select. Alternatively the pages we have for each zone has a map showing you the locations of every race.
Difference Between Normal and Advanced Races
In normal races you will see very few obstacles, a large amount of wind boosts and some Vigor nodes.
In advanced races you will see very few wind boosts but more Vigor nodes are placed in the races to replace this. Obstacles are added in many races and the timers are harder to beat.
Dragon Racing Courses in Each Zone
The buttons below will take you to pages for each zone which will detail where the races are, videos for every race on Basic and Advanced, and some tips and tricks to help you get the gold time on every race!
Things to be Aware of Whilst Dragon Racing
Whilst you are in a Dragon Race you will notice checkpoint rings which you need to fly through as well as both beneficial and negative effects. In the sections below we will detail all of these and what they do:
Checkpoint Rings
You will only see two checkpoint rings at a time whilst you are in a Dragonrace. A Yellow checkpoint ring indicates your next checkpoint, while a faded Blue checkpoint ring indicates the checkpoint after your current one to help you plan turns and ability usage.
You will also see arrows pointing you towards these checkpoints. These show your direct path to the checkpoint and is not an indicator of the route you need to take.
Vigor Nodes
Throughout races (and more commonly on advanced races) you will see green
Vigor orbs. These restore 1 Vigor when you fly through them.
Wind Boosts
In normal races (and some advanced races) you will see small clusters of wind. Flying through these will give you a very large speed boost.
Obstacles
There are two types of obstacles; flying into any of these will give a negative effect to you and more importantly, your race timer!
Stun Orbs will debuff you with Zapped if you fly into it.
Zapped will stun you for 2 seconds and remove all momentum. If you have the
Ohn'ahra's Gusts
talent you can
Surge Forward through these and not be stunned for 1 second.
Elemental Orbs will debuff you with Flames if you fly into them.
Flames will slow you for 2 seconds and remove momentum. If you have the
Ohn'ahra's Gusts
talent you can
Surge Forward through these and not be slowed for 1 second.
