Shadow Priest DPS Sanctum of Domination Raid Guide — Shadowlands 9.2
On this page, you will find tips, tricks, and strategies tailored to your Shadow Priest for each boss of the following raid: Sanctum of Domination. All our content is updated for World of Warcraft — Shadowlands 9.2.
Introduction
On this page, you will find Shadow Priest specific information to deal with each boss in the Sanctum of Domination raid. These are not complete encounter guides, but rather provide specific tips for doing the bosses as a Shadow Priest.
This page assumes that you already understand most of the mechanics of each encounter. These can be found on the full raid guide, so what is contained here are details specifically tailored toward Shadow Priest and what you can do to deal with each fight as best as possible.
All recommendations are progression based tips and will not necessarily be the best for an overall DPS ranking.
Shadow Priests in Sanctum of Domination
Similarly to Castle Nathria, I expect Shadow Priests to perform
exceptionally well in terms of progression DPS, providing some of the best
single target-damage in the game. In addition to this, we have access to
Power Infusion and
Fae Guardians as Night Fae, bringing
utility and throughput for ourselves or even other raid members.
The boss suggestions below will say to use Pallid Command for every
encounter. Since this is a Necrolord-only Legendary you can use the following
if you are a member of the other Covenants instead:
Shadowflame Prism - Night Fae or Venthyr (Make sure to use
Mindbender as well)
Talbadar's Stratagem - Kyrian
Generally speaking we will show Twist of Fate for most encounters,
especially the single-target heavy ones. If you are struggling to re-dot effectively,
Misery could make sense as you learn the fight, but generally will perform
worse (1-3% overall).

This boss is quite unique, as it gives you several Anima Powers throughout the encounter from Torghast. These do not include powers that are class-specific. Check out the below list of powers expected to be strong for this encounter as a Shadow Priest. As more people do the fight on live servers this list will be updated.
Consider using Intangibility to help you soak mechanics more often.
Keep in mind by taking this you lose
Body and Soul which might be helpful
for the bosses
Hungering Mist mechanic if you do not have
Soulshape
or
Door of Shadows.
Anima Powers to look for from a DPS perspective:
Elethium Weights
Lumbering Form
Obleron Talisman
Obleron Winds
Potent Acid Gland
Soulward Clasp
Tremorbeast Heart
V'lara's Cape of Subterfuge
Huddled Carvings
- Stand next to a player with
Twisted Samophlange
For more information, please refer to our The Tarragrue guide.
The Eye of the Jailer
We advise you to use the following talents against The Eye of the Jailer.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits

- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against The Eye of the Jailer: Pallid Command.
While this boss does have some adds, they are somewhat few and far between,
making Twist of Fate the clear winner on this encounter. The steady
add coming in during Phase 1 gives you more boss damage and typically only needs
dots cast on it a few times. Make sure that, during the Phase 2 intermission, you ask your
tanks to group the adds just close enough so you can keep DoTs on both for the extra
damage. Careful about bringing them too close, otherwise you will wipe the raid.
Note: you can use Soulshape to get through the beam, but this can be
tricky to time and could mean certain death should you fail.
You can use Dispersion to quickly move out and mitigate damage from
Spreading Misery, also allowing you to stack this pool on top of an existing
one without losing much health.
For more information, please refer to our The Eye of the Jailer guide.
The Nine
We advise you to use the following talents against The Nine.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35:
Last Word (situational options:
Mind Bomb or
Psychic Horror)
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against The Nine: Pallid Command.
Even though the start of the encounter does have two targets, they should be relatively
easy to keep up full DoTs on with Twist of Fate.
Misery would certainly
make this easier but at the cost of boss damage. In addition, there are lots of interrupts
needed on this fight, consider taking
Last Word to get more kicks.
For more information, please refer to our The Nine guide.
Remnant of Ner'zhul
We advise you to use the following talents against Remnant of Ner'zhul.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Remnant of Ner'zhul: Pallid Command.
Similar to previous bosses, this fight is very good with Twist of Fate.
The orbs come out at a relatively steady pace, giving you extra "execute" damage
throughout the fight and usually only need dots cast on them once. You can pre-DoT the orbs
when best for you to get
Twist of Fate ASAP. If the orbs live long enough
keeping
Vampiric Touch active can even help with better priority target damage
with
Auspicious Spirits.
With good timing, you can mitigate the knockback effects on this fight with good
uses of Soulshape or
Fleshcraft with
Ultimate Form.
If you are one of the people dispeling on this fight make sure you are using the
Clear Mind Conduit.
For more information, please refer to our Remnant of Ner'zhul guide.
Soulrender Dormazain
We advise you to use the following talents against Soulrender Dormazain.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate or
Misery
- Level 35:
Psychic Horror (situational options:
Last Word or
Mind Bomb)
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Soulrender Dormazain: Pallid Command.
Similar to the previous bosses you will likely want to run Twist of Fate
for the increased boss damage, but could run
Misery for more add damage. Lots of
top parses will run Misery to get this extra damage, but this should only be done if your
group is struggling with add damage or you have a hard time grouping the adds up for other
classes stacked AoE. Misery can make quick work of the adds almost regardless if they are
stacked or not.
Psychic Horror will be a good pickup to have a stun and
Silence for the add waves.
Save your Soulshape for moments when you might be caught out of position for
Torment mechanics, rely on group movement CDs as much as possible to save this for
when you really need it.
For more information, please refer to our Soulrender Dormazain guide.
Painsmith Raznal
We advise you to use the following talents against Painsmith Raznal.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Painsmith Raznal: Pallid Command.
For the most part this is a pure single target fight, and you should optimize around that. Based on your group's damage, you will likely use all your CDs together for the first Phase 1 on opener and the next Phase 1 after the first intermission. You likely will not be able to fit more than one use of these cooldowns inside these Phase 1s, but pending fight time and Night Fae should squeeze in an extra one right at the end of the fight.
Your cooldowns will look something like this:
- 0:00 - Use all CDs for first Phase 1
- 1:00 - Use 2nd
Mindbender if the boss is still active; it should come up in time
- ~2:00 (or when the boss comes back) - Use all CDs again for second Phase 1.
- ~3:00 - Use 4th
Mindbender if the boss is still active; it should come up in time
- ~4:20 (or when the boss comes back) - Use all CDs again for third Phase 1
- Rest of the fight, you will probably just get one more use of your CDs pending fight time, use your judgment if you should sync these or not.
Note: you can use Soulshape or
Door of Shadows to dodge many
of the mechanics in this encounter, but I prefer to hold things like
Soulshape
for bad line ups of certain mechanics or during intermission phases.
For more information, please refer to our Painsmith Raznal guide.
Guardian of the First Ones
We advise you to use the following talents against Guardian of the First Ones.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Guardian of the First Ones: Pallid Command.
Tips will be added after more testing is done on live servers.
Fatescribe Roh-Kalo
We advise you to use the following talents against Fatescribe Roh-Kalo.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Twist of Fate
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Fatescribe Roh-Kalo: Pallid Command.
Be sure to swap to the add that spawns after Invoke Destiny.
Depending on your raid group, this might die too fast to actually DoT the
add. Rather, just nuke it with anything else you have at the time.
This is a great target for
Twist of Fate procs during these
phases.
During Phase 2, if you are struggling with add damage you can
take Misery or even
Searing Nightmare. Neither of these talents
really help you kill the boss faster, but can get you a better parse if your
group lets you pad on the adds.
Shadow Crash can also be used if you are
trying to pad, but will lack substantially in boss damage so you will need
quite a lot of damage to beat out
Auspicious Spirits.
For more information, please refer to our Fatescribe Roh-Kalo guide.
Kel'Thuzad
We advise you to use the following talents against Kel'Thuzad.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Misery or
Searing Nightmare
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits or
Shadow Crash
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Kel'Thuzad: Pallid Command.
With the amount of adds in this fight, Misery will likely
be the main choice in talents in that row. With Misery, you should
be able to comfortably DoT all the adds. Be sure to focus one at a time
with your
Devouring Plague casts, or send them into the boss
if up/available. If it turns out that you are only concerned about phase
3 damage, you could take
Twist of Fate, but this will be
considerably weaker in other parts of the encounter.
Searing Nightmare or
Shadow Crash could also be used if
you are trying to pad on various stacked adds, but likely not something you
would run with on progression. If you are chosen to go into the phylactery with
the Remnant of Kel'thuzad, taking either of these options probably does not make
sense.
Typically you will remain in the upstairs phase for this fight as it naturally caters to our damage kit as we can easily damage all the adds in that realm and prioritize damage if need be.
For more information, please refer to our Kel'Thuzad guide.
Sylvanas Windrunner
We advise you to use the following talents against Sylvanas Windrunner.
- Level 15:
Fortress of the Mind
- Level 25: No specific recommendation
- Level 30:
Misery or
Searing Nightmare
- Level 35: No specific recommendation
- Level 40:
Auspicious Spirits
- Level 45:
Void Torrent
- Level 50:
Hungering Void
We advise you to use the following Legendary against Sylvanas Windrunner: Pallid Command.
Due to the boss "dying" at 50% in Phase 3, taking Twist of Fate
has no benefit for Phase 3, and is specifically only useful when sniping adds in
the first two phases. As such taking
Misery or
Searing Nightmare
are the preferred choices here so you at least get some value from that talent row in Phase 3.
Between those two
Searing Nightmare will net you better add damage in Phase 1, whereas
Misery could help you DoT better throughout the fight.
In Phase 2, you can dot as many adds as possible, but be sure to dump your
Devouring Plague into the high-priority adds or bank
Insanity for when the boss comes back into being vulnerable.
For more information, please refer to our Sylvanas Windrunner guide.
