Fire Mage DPS Guide — The War Within (11.2)

In 11.2, Fire has received various changes, which are largely focused around number tuning and Hero Talent rebalancing.

• The new Artifact Cloak was added. This does not directly impact Fire's playstyle, but it does impact its gearing choices. See our Reshii Wraps page for more info on how to obtain it, upgrade it, etc.
• Time Anomaly was removed.
• Inspired Intellect now grants 6% Intellect (was 3%).
• Meteor now does 40% more damage to the enemy closest to its center.
• Hyperthermia now causes each Pyroblast or Flamestrike during Hyperthermia to increase the damage of Pyroblast and Flamestrike by 15%, up to 150%.
• Frostfire:
  • Frostfire Burst now does 50% more damage.
  • Excess Frost casts Ice Nova at 200% effectiveness (was 150%).
• As with every new season, a new tier set was added. This time around, the tier set is Hero Talent specific, giving different bonuses depending on which Hero Talent you are using. See the Gear Page for more information on the tier set.
• There were a lot of minor number changes, especially due to the new tier set being Hero Talent specific, but none of the numerical changes cause any meaningful rotational impact. Generally, most of Fire's spells hit slightly harder, while Mastery: Ignite does a bit less damage.

Due to all of these changes, almost all pages in the guide were updated in one form or another. Some of the most notable changes are on the Rotation Page, Talents Page, and Gear Page, which were all updated to handle the new optimal gear, talents and rotation.

Additionally, we have updated the Easy Mode Page to be focused mostly around not having the tier set bonus.

Fire Mage has received no changes in 11.1.7. However, the newly added Durable Information Securing Container item does impact the gear choices for Fire, and the newly added Combat Assistant provides a simpler way to play the spec, which we outline on our Rotation Page.

Fire Mage has received no changes in 11.1.5 itself. However, in the weeks leading up to 11.1.5, Fire received a few changes:

• April 12th 2025:
  • Frostfire Bolt damage increased by 15%.
  • Frostfire Infusion damage increased by 30%.
  • Isothermic Core now calls down Comet Storm at 300% effectiveness (was 250%). Does not apply to PvP combat.
  • Overall, all of these changes together make Frostfire slightly better than Sunfury on single-target, while still being slightly worse in AoE.
• March 22nd 2025: All damage reduced by 3%.
