Introduction

In this section you will find information pertaining to each boss individually. It is recommended you follow the standard talent build found in the Builds, Talents, and Glyphs section of the guide unless otherwise advised on a per boss basis. Much of the information is geared towards Mythic encounters, though it can be applied equally to the lesser difficulties.

Each section is aimed at players progressing through the tiers, and as such, old raids will not advise the use of new items available after their patches have concluded.

1. Antorus, the Burning Throne as a Marksmanship Hunter

We do not recommend specific trinkets for most fights, as you should simply be using whatever sims higher for your own character out of what you have. When certain fights are catered to specific trinkets, we will make a mention of this as it can influence your decision beyond whatever you sim.

Similarly, we will not always recommend specific Legendaries unless the specific encounter caters to certain ones. Otherwise, we will simply say "Multi-Target Legendaries" and "Single-Target Legendaries". Since your best choice of these can vary even if you have all Legendaries, you should sim yourself to work out what these designations will mean for you.

1.1. Garothi Worldbreaker

The Garothi Worldbreaker is mostly a standard "Patchwerk" style encounter. Your main Focus points should be on minimizing your movement and executing your single-target rotation as cleanly as possible. You can use Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle to soak on Mythic difficulty if needed. It is very important to have a Trueshot Icon Trueshot for the final part of the fight during your Bullseye phase, so do not use a Trueshot Icon Trueshot before ~15% health unless you know that you will get another cast in.

1.1.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.2. Felhounds of Sargeras

The Felhounds of Sargeras is mostly a standard "Patchwerk" style encounter. It has high movement, especially if you are one of the unlucky ones to receive the Fire debuff when the boss is pulled. There is nothing you can do about this coin toss, so you should be prepared to deal with whatever the boss throws at you.

Before any DPS considerations are made, keep in mind that surviving — that is, dodging/stacking/spreading the numerous movement-based mechanics this fight throws at you — is much more important than finishing casts and so on. Your priority should be to minimize movement as much as possible, without this ever coming at the expense of taking less damage. When you do not have to move, but you have free time in your rotation, think about where you can put your character so that you have to move less when it actually counts.

1.2.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.3. Antoran High Command

The Antoran High Command is a multi-target fight where you are focused on killing one boss, but with numerous add spawns throughout the fight.

  • The adds that spawn on this fight cannot be stunned or otherwise CC'd, but they can be knocked back with Bursting Shot Icon Bursting Shot. This is useful for making sure that they stay in melee range as much as possible, allowing more cleave.
  • Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle can negate the stun suffered by the Shock Grenade, but you should only use it for this purpose if an add is about to charge you when your stun is about to go off, as this combo of abilities is one of the few things that can kill you on this fight.
  • If you end up being targeted by the Shock Grenade, and then charged by an add at the same time, you can lay a Freezing Trap Icon Freezing Trap in front of your character and freeze the add before it gets to you, if your reactions are fast.

1.3.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.4. Portal Keeper Hasabel

Portal Keeper Hasabel is a mixed fight with 2 essential assignments. One is single-target centric and relies on getting to the adds on the platforms surrounding the main platform and maximizing damage on them. The other is focused on being downstairs, killing and interrupting the Blazing Imps. The recommendations below will be split up into these 2 assignments.

  • When downstairs killing Blazing Imps, try and save your interrupt for the later adds that spawn that will be out of position for melee to interrupt/stun. Utilize the fact that you are ranged to do things that melee cannot.
  • Having either the Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes or the Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates trinket is all but mandatory for the Platform Duty. Having one of these things will allow your Trueshots to line up with every platform effortlessly. Having both is generally undesirable however.

1.4.1. Talents

Single-Target (Platform Duty) Talent Choice:

Imp Killing (Main Platform) Talent Choice:

*While we generally recommend Trick Shot Icon Trick Shot, if you are competing with other Hunters for Imp damage, Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders is a very viable and less stressful alternative, as it does not require you to swap targets to other imps to hit them all. If you feel like using Trick Shot Icon Trick Shot and cleaving the adds is a chore, try out Sidewinders!

1.5. Eonar the Life-Binder

Eonar the Life-Binder is primarily a multi-target fight, where the most important thing is to be at the right place, at the right time. Your focus should be on knowing where your group is at all times, and where it is going next. If you are assigned to the groups going to the Paraxis on Mythic difficulty, you should know where this happens in the fight and ideally have Trueshot Icon Trueshot ready, although there is not a tough DPS check up there.

  • Try and save Trueshot Icon Trueshot for Obfuscators and Destructors, as these are the most time consuming and dangerous for the raid to kill. It may not flatter your personal DPS, but getting rid of these big adds will give your raid much more free time overall.
  • If you are picking up the Red debuff from the Paraxis, you can place yourself under the small pillars around the area when the debuff is coming up. This prevents you from getting knocked into the air. If this is not available, you can cast Disengage Icon Disengage as soon as the debuff goes off to prevent yourself flying into space.

1.5.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.6. Imonar the Soulhunter

Imonar the Soulhunter is a single-target fight. There are not many specific things you can do as a Hunter apart from not dying and executing mechanics as easily as possible.

  • Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle is a decent tool for soaking certain things like Mines on the bridge, but you will still get a stack of the debuff when you do so, so exercise caution.
  • The Trailblazer Icon Trailblazer talent allows you to move faster across the bridge, since you are not attacking during this time.
  • When you are nearing the end of the bridge, you can target the boss and cast Arcane Shot Icon Arcane Shot to stack True Aim up before it is interrupted and he takes proper damage again.

1.6.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.7. Kin'garoth

Kin'garoth is a primarily single-target fight where burst damage is extremely important.

  • Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes are essential for this fight, with no other cooldown reduction items. You want to save Trueshot Icon Trueshot for every spawn of robots to maximize damage done to them.
  • The robot adds take increased damage when they have just spawned, so try and frontload your damage by popping Trueshot Icon Trueshot and A Murder of Crows Icon A Murder of Crows as soon as they have spawned.
  • If you have a choice of rings and necklaces of roughly the same item level, try and go for Critical Strike, as this is the best stat we have for burst damage. On-use trinkets such as Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion and Terminus Signaling Beacon Icon Terminus Signaling Beacon are extremely useful as well.
  • If the boss dips below 20% HP when the fourth robots spawn, you should use A Murder of Crows Icon A Murder of Crows on the boss to stack up Bullseye, the second before you swap to the add. This is a significant DPS increase to that add, as you essentially get an execute Trueshot with plenty stacks of Bullseye, coupled with the damage increase on the robot.

1.7.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.8. Varimathras

Varimathras is a primarily single-target fight, but on Mythic, adds spawn throughout the fight that must die in an extremely short time frame to prevent a wipe.

  • Hunters are not great for killing the adds, but we can still contribute by slightly delaying and sitting on Marking Targets Icon Marking Targets procs. When adds spawn, we can then cast Multi-Shot Icon Multi-Shot followed by Marked Shot Icon Marked Shot on adds. This is an overall DPS increase too, especially with the T21 4-piece bonus that will cause some of these Marked Shots to hit twice.
  • Using anything but Multi/Marked Shot on the adds is undesirable, as casting Arcane Shot Icon Arcane Shot and Aimed Shot Icon Aimed Shot will cause your True Aim Icon True Aim stacks to reset, but you should do whatever it takes for them to die in time, although the boss also has an enrage timer.
  • Other than this, there are no significant, Hunter-specific things to Varimathras.
  • (Mythic) Piercing Shot Icon Piercing Shot can be used as a great talent for dealing with the adds. You should save Icon Windburst for the adds when they spawn, so that you can make them Vulnerable for the Piercing Shot Icon Piercing Shot you cast straight after.

1.8.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.9. The Coven of Shivarra

The Coven of Shivarra is a council-style encounter where the bosses and adds that spawn throughout are spread out, making it the only fight where Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders is undisputably the best choice.

  • One cooldown-reduction item such as Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes is recommended for optimal line-ups on this encounter. We generally recommend Trueshotting on pull, then fire adds, then lightning adds, then fire adds again, and then during the boss' execute phase, though if you are having trouble killing the Aman'Thul adds comfortably in time, you should delay the third Trueshot for these instead.
  • The further you stand away when casting Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders, the wider its cone will be. Especially when there are adds up, you should try and be as far away from your main target as possible, while still ensuring that Marked Shot Icon Marked Shot can hit everything that your Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders marks with Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark.
  • Every tank does this fight slightly differently, and based on your positional assignments for the adds in the fight, your optimal position will vary. We recommend analyzing your guild's positioning strategy, especially during add phases, and adjusting your own positioning as needed, focusing on getting Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders to hit as many targets as possible.
  • We also strongly recommend Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus for progressing on this fight, as it can easily save your life from a DoT tick or ability that would otherwise have killed you.
  • Wyvern Sting Icon Wyvern Sting is valuable for the CC adds that spawn in the fight, and can get you out of a bad situation where a Storm of the Darkness safe spot is in the path of a walking add. Freezing Trap Icon Freezing Trap can do this as well.

1.9.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.10. Aggramar

Aggramar is a single-target encounter with a lot of of incoming damage, and where raid coordination is key to Mythic especially. Hunters do not bring anything unique to this fight and our focus point should be to maximize damage done to the big intermission adds in particular.

  • Due to a lot of incoming damage on this encounter, Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus can be a solid choice of Legendary, but on Mythic difficulty in particular, you will need the Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes in order to have Trueshot ready for the first intermission, so you should not go Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus Icon Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus unless you absolutely need it to survive.
  • Before swapping to the adds in the intermissions, you want to make sure that the boss is not marked with Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark. If he is, spend the proc before hitting the adds. This helps you avoid True Aim resetting due to useless Trick Shot cleave on the boss.
  • We recommend swapping targets between the two adds on every Vulnerable Icon Vulnerable during Trueshot especially. This lets you use Marked Shot Icon Marked Shot on both of them, and also benefit from Trick Shot Icon Trick Shot cleave, even at a distance.
  • If you have Avoidance gear available to you, this is worth using even at a slight DPS loss. Hunters' biggest weakness on Aggramar is our poor survivability or "squishiness".
  • Due to our aforementioned squishiness, use your defensives like Exhilaration Icon Exhilaration liberally, especially during and immediately after intermissions.

1.10.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

1.11. Argus the Unmaker

Argus the Unmaker is a single-target encounter with a number of important DPS checks. High single-target damage is key to this encounter, as well as executing the mechanics properly.

  • The best buff for Marksmanship is the Critical Strike/Mastery buff from Gift of the Sky Icon Gift of the Sky. This is the dark blue debuff that looks a bit like lightning. Refreshing the buff and building up to 4 stacks is absolutely crucial to optimal DPS.
  • Feign Death Icon Feign Death can be used to instantly break the Sentence of Sargeras chain without having to run. Just be careful about using it too quickly.
  • If you are using the Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes, you should save your second Trueshot Icon Trueshot for when you have 4 stacks of the Gift of the Sky Icon Gift of the Sky buff.
  • If you are tight on DPS in Phase 3 especially, you can generally ignore DPSing the modules in Phase 3 for additional boss damage. Keep in mind that it is better for melee to ignore the module than it is for you. If melee are ignoring it already and you are still behind on boss damage, only then should you consider sticking to the boss when they spawn.
  • If you have Avoidance gear available to you, this is worth using even at a slight DPS loss.
  • Due to our aforementioned squishiness, use your defensives like Exhilaration Icon Exhilaration liberally, especially during and immediately after intermissions.

1.11.1. Talents

Talent Choice:

2. (Old) Tomb of Sargeras as a Marksmanship Hunter

A note on trinkets; as seen in our gear page and trinket sims over there, Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal can be swapped with a number of different trinkets, although none are quite as strong. Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates' usefulness can vary based on the fight length you are dealing with, and whether it will cause Trueshot Icon Trueshot to line up with certain mechanics or not. Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion is a great trinket, but falls short on multi-target fights where nothing even comes close to a combination of Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates and Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal.

MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer and Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes suffer a similar conundrum, where the gloves are generally the better single-target Legendary, especially paired with a decent, non-tier offpiece, but certain fight mechanics and timings may make you prefer a Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes-based build where you add in Convergence and the Tier 19 2-piece bonus to achieve a lot of well-timed Trueshots.

When we recommend talents and trinkets, we are generally Focusing on the best overall damage output as this is by far the easiest to judge objectively, but in certain situations this may not be the best bet for your group composition. Always think about how you can use Trueshot Icon Trueshot cooldown reduction items to make a fight go more smoothly.

We also recommend Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal a lot, even though it is not a ToS raid trinket. This is simply due to how powerful it is, but it also has no fight-specific benefits, it is just the stats boosting its value. Therefore it can suitably be replaced by whatever your second-best trinket is for that slot and so on.

2.1. Goroth

Goroth is a standard "Patchwerk" style encounter. Your main Focus points should be on minimizing your movement and executing your single-target rotation as cleanly as possible. You can use Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle to solo-soak on Mythic difficulty if needed. It is very important to have a Trueshot Icon Trueshot for the final part of the fight during your Bullseye phase, so do not use a Trueshot Icon Trueshot before ~15% health unless you know that you will get another cast in.

2.1.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal.

Legendary Choice: MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Talent Choice:

2.2. The Demonic Inquisition

Your damage output against The Demonic Inquisition is largely determined by how well (or badly) your group spawns small adds. If you spawn a lot of small adds and they are all over the room, you should consider Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders with appropriate positioning for it (i.e. be as far away from everyone else and the bosses as possible to hit both bosses and as many adds as possible). Save Trueshot Icon Trueshot for when adds spawn, keeping in mind when the boss is about to die but Focusing on using Trueshot Icon Trueshot the adds.

2.2.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates & Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal.

Legendary Choice: War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army & Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes

Talent Choice:

2.3. Harjatan

Use Trueshot Icon Trueshot when the boss is pulled, and on every wave of adds after that. Utilize any moment when the boss is close to another murloc or egg to build up belt stacks. When you are stacked on the egg and about to kill it, using Multi-Shot Icon Multi-Shot to build Legendary belt stacks so that you have 20 stacks ready for a Sickly wave is very useful. This is the only fight where the T19 2-piece is almost mandatory, provided that you have it.

2.3.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates & Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal.

Legendary Choice: War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army & Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes

Talent Choice:

2.4. Sisters of the Moon

This fight is a typical single-target fight and has a lot of the same essentials as Goroth. Be careful not to use any cooldowns right before the 70% and 40% marks, as the boss will disappear at these points and stop you from doing damage for a few seconds. Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle can be used to stop Beacon rings from spawning in the last phase. Be liberal with using defensives like Turtle and Exhilaration Icon Exhilaration when targeted by Rapid Shot Icon Rapid Shot and Twilight Glaive Icon Twilight Glaive.

2.4.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates.

Legendary Choice: MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Talent Choice:

2.5. Mistress Sassz'ine

There are two ways of going about Mistress: Single-Target and Cleave Focus. Technically speaking, the best of these two is the cleave-focused build, because it does not lose that much single-target compared to the other build while doing excellent cleave, but it can be downright debilitating for your raid because the Abyss Stalker adds must not die too quickly. Your best choice will depend on your raid composition. Ask yourself "Do we have enough damage to always nuke the adds down in a hurry if we need to". If the answer is yes, then you can probably go with a single-target build. The cleave-focused build will do more damage overall, but with great power comes great responsibility, so in short, do not kill the adds too quickly!

2.5.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates.

Legendary Choice (Single-Target): MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Legendary Choice (Cleave Focus): War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army & Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes

Talent Choice:

2.5.2. Single-Target

2.5.3. Cleave Focus

2.6. The Desolate Host

If you are part of the corporeal realm (which is ideal), you can always use your Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle to avoid being sent to the spirit realm when targeted by Spear of Anguish Icon Spear of Anguish. When the adds have the Bone shield on them, use Multi-Shot Icon Multi-Shot instead of Arcane Shot Icon Arcane Shot, but use it as if it was Arcane Shot Icon Arcane Shot instead of trying to maximize overall cleave. The goal is to use the adds and the Legendary belt to maximize boss damage when the adds are taking reduced damage. When the adds become fully attackable, cleave as normal and save your Trueshots for those moments.

2.6.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates & Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal

Legendary Choice: War Belt of the Sentinel Army Icon War Belt of the Sentinel Army & Ullr's Feather Snowshoes Icon Ullr's Feather Snowshoes

Talent Choice:

2.7. Maiden of Vigilance

This is a unique encounter in that your maximum damage potential will mostly be unleashed during very bursty moments. Firstly, Focus on acquiring as many orb stacks as possible. It is almost always possible to get 9-10 stacks. If you are using the Gloves (which we strongly recommend), do not use Trueshot Icon Trueshot off the pull, saving it for the first orb phase (and the consecutive ones) instead.

2.7.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates.

Legendary Choice: MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Talent Choice:

2.8. Fallen Avatar

Your optimal playstyle and setup here will depend on whether your group has trouble with killing the Maiden of Valor in a timely fashion. As it is one of the few things that can still easily wipe your raid, we recommend starting out with a Boots-based build and using Trueshot Icon Trueshot on every shield phase. Then, if you find that the shields are breaking much sooner then they absolutely have to, you can swap to a Gloves-based build and reap the benefits of the movement and increased boss damage. You can solo-soak Touch of Sargeras Icon Touch of Sargeras and Dark Mark Icon Dark Mark with Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle.

2.8.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates.

Legendary Choice: MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Talent Choice:

2.9. Kil'jaeden

You can use Disengage Icon Disengage to negate the knockback effects in this encounter. But use it sparingly and only when you have to, as there are usually easier and less risky ways of avoiding the knockback. The large Armageddon Rain Icon Armageddon Rain pools can be solo-soaked with Aspect of the Turtle Icon Aspect of the Turtle. Save Trueshot Icon Trueshot for the Shadow Reflection: Erupting Icon Shadow Reflection: Erupting adds at all times, and use your Sidewinders Icon Sidewinders (Mythic-only) on the boss to make sure they are all being hit. Do still use Aimed Shot Icon Aimed Shot on the adds.

On Normal and Heroic difficulties, you should treat this as a pure single-target fight, but save your Trueshot Icon Trueshot for whenever the Shadow Reflection: Erupting Icon Shadow Reflection: Erupting adds spawn and use it to AoE there.

2.9.1. Talents, Trinkets, and Legendaries

Trinket Choice: Tarnished Sentinel Medallion Icon Tarnished Sentinel Medallion & Unstable Arcanocrystal Icon Unstable Arcanocrystal

Legendary Choice: MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer Icon MKII Gyroscopic Stabilizer & Soul of the Huntmaster Icon Soul of the Huntmaster

Talent Choice:

An alternative Mythic build uses the gloves and the boots with Convergence of Fates Icon Convergence of Fates, this lets you Trueshot the first tank add of the second phase which is useful if your guild is having trouble with that DPS check.

2.9.2. Mythic-only Sidewinders Build

2.9.3. Other Difficulties
